The current welfare system is breeding a culture of entitlement. Not only the people that are actually on welfare but also those looking at the welfare system and saying to themselves, Why should I work so hard while "they" (welfare recipients) are getting something for nothing? Kind of brings society as a whole down a notch.
When I was a kid I was taught, work hard, be honest & treat others as you would have them treat you. It seems these days it's How little can I do to get by and who, or what system, can I take advantage of to make my life easier.

I absolutely don't think we should let ANYONE go hungry, that's not my point. But, I don't think the current system is helping people improve themselves. It's rewarding people for doing nothing. That's a drain on society in the form of taxes, and it's a disservice to the recipients as it rewards them for being less than they could be.

Climbing down now & getting back to work.
I'm with you. To get state assistance there should be a work for food program. Even most of the women would qualify. There are plenty of state owned buildings in just about every town. Open up some of that property, make a daycare for the women with children. Have a rotating daycare work schedule. Some of the women work cleaning state properties inside and out and rotate with some in the daycare as babysitters couple days a week. Pass mandatory drug testing, Work a minumum number of hours weekly...etc,etc. I never got anything for free, even getting screwed from Social Security now that I'm old enough. The people now a days just don't get it!
