    Road Trip

I took the 500 powered El Camino on a little 4000 mile round trip to see family back in IL last week. I’m a little saddle sore (ain’t the golden years great) but I had a good time.

I managed to spend some time with my cousin who is in to 55 Chevys…he’s thinned the herd a bit since the last time I was there and is down to around 10 now. He introduced me to a fella who is a real Mopar guy that has a nice collection of B Bodies and a couple of HEMI powered 30’s Plymouths. I even managed to make one of the little local car shows….those guys really turn out some nice cars during the long mid-west winters.

I think the neatest thing I saw though was one guys 1969 Road Runner project. As I was looking at the car (which needs total restoration) I realized I had seen it before …..when it was NEW. It was bought by the service writer in the Chrysler Plymouth dealership I was working at in 69 for a graduation present for his daughter. It was kind of like seeing an old friend, brought back a lot of memories.

The truck did great, it got 16-17 MPG and attracted a lot of attention. It turns out be one of the biggest cop magnets I’ve built in a while, of course being an old long hair driving a truck with AZ tags up the I 35 drug corridor probably didn’t help matters. I got stopped in Kansas and Missouri, had my information run and turned loose (no tickets).

Sorry no pictures I forgot the camera.

I've NEVER seen a car come from the factory that couldn't be improved.....
