We,as a country,have been experiencing a bit of strange weather lately,,flooding has started early,,etc,,and to top it off,Auckland decided to try and emulate your hurricane,,albeit in a smaller scale..Unfortunately,there was a death involved,,:(Believe me,we dont normally have stuff like this happen..

I saw a BBC video of that baby tornado - it was small but really looked nasty going down the road. It's too bad that there was a death. The US tornado's - there were over 360 deaths and quite a few still missing. Then there are the floods in the middle of America............ the world's weather has been spectacular but not much fun for lots of folks
Robin, you may want to check back on weather conditions in 1974. I just did a quick scan and it looks like typhoon and flooding were at record levels then, though moreso on your neighbors on Oz.
Wiser weatherheads here are saying that our tornado activity is highest since 1974...........when Pacific weather conditions were most like they are this year. Of course we've got bubbleheads that whine about "global warming", though in 1975 these same kind of charlitans were whining about the imminent ice age they were predicting. The more things change the more they seem the same.......

We get them fairly regularly around this side of the hill; but because we don't have the population density of Auckland there's rarely fatalities.
The last death was around 15/18 years ago.
And it wasn't long ago one roared through New Plymouth; barely missing Robbie Low's.

Here in Texas, we set a record on Monday - at least that's what the "Gurus" said.
They said that it got up to only 52 degrees and that was a record high but the temp was the lowest er uh and the lowest high or was it low'high - - anyhow it was lower that the previous high - - er uh low high well what it was, was the lowest high temperature ever recorded and not the lowest temp - - - ?understand? - - - me neither **)
....and that Tejas weather - it just arrived up here in the Great Northeast. It was 48F @0600, now it's 43F. Thanks, Meller

Bob you twigged my memeory re 1974, i was 9 years old at that time and the highway north of our farm was flooded about a foot deep for about a 1/2 mile. pretty amazing when you live in big prarie country like we do. Guess what, this year it happend again and its flooding all over the country, Blizzard 12 inches of wet snow last weeked 200 miles east of us Crazy. If were wet and cold here,that meeting of cold and hot is way further South and fires up all those twisters. Last year was wild here for storms and it may end up being the same.
Personally I am hoping for rain to start the next couple of weeks.
This way when I make my big move to Nevada from Florida
I will not be blowing tires on the hot asphult roads all
the way out there. Plus it will help the cars run cool under
the loads they will be pulling.
