Hi Joe, all the best for your surgery and I have my pre-op tests and discussion with the surgery team on the 3/22/11 for knee replacement. So I look forward to hearing from you on how it goes. I know you will be in good hands and everything will be right but all the best.

I came home Thursday afternoon. This is 5days after the surgery, I can't sleep, hurt like hell, my appetite is hardly there and I truly doubt in 3 months I'll get the other one done unless it's a HAVE TO. I can honestly say this is the WORSE surgery I have been through. Even my 11.5hr back surgery seems like a cake walk to this one. I will say the knee itself does feel a bit better though but I am in no hurry to hurt myself like this anytime soon.
Just thought I'd drop by for a sec & give an update...thanks everyone....joe
Sorry it's such a miserable deal for you Joe!!! Due to your honesty, I'll be telling the surgeon that he can wait to do my knees until the totally fall apart!!!!
Hope things start getting better for you soon, I know what you're going through on that after surgery stuff.....

Do your homework and rehab and it'll get better each day.
Above all keep the bend and the flex working so it don't freeze up and have to be "CRUNCHED" :CRY::CRY::CRY:

Joe hang in there! I know it must hurt something fierce, and it will continue, but I hear after about six months, most people have recovered and are happy they went thru it, but I can't imagine how painfull it must be, I know they like to start physical therapy right away. A few members here have been thru them, as have many of my firiends, here's wishing you a speedy recovery as painless as can be.
Wanted to share my Wiffy's comments with you, Joe. When she saw the above pic of your leg. Her exact words were "Bless his heart, I know just how he feels !" This was her leg 2 days after her TKR in '09. BTW, how are you progressing?

I'm doing better, hurt less everyday & I even went out side yesterday to enjoy the sun & nice weather we had. Knee is stiff but I am doing what the doc said to do & been bending it & walking on it. Sleeping is the hard part since it still won't lay straight and it bother my hip & lower back. Thank God for body pillows because I am able to lay anyway I like as long as the pillow is under the leg.
Doc said I wont be able to tell where the scare is because he cut right along side an old long ACL scar, but he did use staples instead of stitches. He did tell me the knee was totaled, full of scar tissue & "Arthur" as working full force in it & that he gave me the largest implantable prosthetic knee they make in me & that I "AM" a very large bone person.
Mello tell your wife thanks, at least now I know it's suppose to look like my leg has been through fight & lost.
Both of my sisters in law had knee replacements, one about 7 years ago and the other 4 years ago. I know that both had a lot of pain, but neither has regretted having the operation done, their quality of life is so much better now. I can recall the one hobbling around with two canes before the operation; now she takes long walks every day. Hang in there, Joe, the pain will only last for a little while, then you will have your life back.
Joe I've put off having both of my knees replaced and after what you went through I'm glad I did. I''ll keep mine until they fall apart although sometimers when I can harldy walk on them I start thinking maybe it's about time.

BUT, don't do like a friend did. He waited too long & ended up NOT being able to have the replacements because he had worn his so bad that he had stress fractures in both bones that take the replacement parts. The doc told him, SORRY :eek: :confused: we can't replace them now because of these issues.

I origionally hurt mine in sports years ago and I've had 3 operations on my right knee and 4 on my left. There's no cartlidge left and it's bone against bone. Fortunetly I can take alot of pain and I walk as much as possible. The trouble I'm having with mine is I cannot do much landscapping work anymore. My right leg has bow out and my Doctor says you need the operation on my right knee much more than my left. I keep saying I'll have it done and I'mnot like you as I'm small frame and only weigh 165 but the years are catching up with me as I'm 67. I had a rotor cuff operation and that was the most painful thing I've ever had and they say the leg is even worst. Some say they got right up with very little pain and some say about what you went through. Did they give you a morphine pump for the pain?
Joe I know what your going through I had my right knee done just under 2 years ago. It hurt like holy heck for maybe 2 or 3 weeks then as the swelling went away it got better. I'm sorry I waited so long but I had to make a living. I waited till I couldn't stand it anymore. I went to therapy for 2 months before and I think 2 or 3 after.Don't let it get stiff. When I got out of surgery my right leg looked like my arm hardly no mussle but now I can run if I have to. chasing the grandkids I couldn't do that before. IT will be worth the pain.
