Haha, did you see how close it came to the garage door jam when he turned around? That setup looks like it caused more harm than good.
I remember when Popular Mechanics magazine would always have these sorts of ideas from the inventors, and feature stuff like this.
Don
A friend sent me that a few weeks back, and I googled "spare tire parking" and saw this patent from 1934 using the rear mounted spare. Like you said, the idea just never caught on.

Well they have rear wheel steering on some semi trailers. Crazy to watch if your not ready for it:eek:
Over the years they seem to always come up with stuff to help with steering and parking. Back in the 80's my mom bought a 4 wheel steering Honda Prelude, The rear whells would turn one direction for a slight turn, but rotate the opposite direction for a hard turn. I begged her to get that model(Hell I was still a young kid) and she did because she liked the wheels that came stock on that model vs. the standard model. It only cost about 1200 more for the steering package. I was almost sick we we took it for a test drive in an empty parking lot while the dealer was doing donuts in a perfect circle at 25 mph(me in the back seat). Needless to say it was easy to park, and a blast to drive, though it did come up on two wheels on the freeway once when I swerved to be avoiding being hit by someone who merged into my lane at 70 mph. I guess the sudden wheel spin, at 70, wasn't in the original drive specs(probably what lead to the demise of that short run option.
I hear the new Prius can parallel park itself( which makes sense considering the driving abilities of most of the Prius owners around here!
I like some of the other videos there too! The Volkswagon trialer was very cool!

I hate that when another '52 Cady snuggles up to my '52 Cady!:whacked:
That volks trailer is very cool too...but I would get some HD shocks or air on my bug first!
Thats some cool stuff.
