Just heard of the 6.3 quake. Hope all of our CHRers from N Z are OK.

I guess I was jumpin' up & down to hard on the Wood Bros. win...
But seriously, we hope your all ok "down there"...
please let us know how you all are as soon as you guys can.
Most the kiwi guys on here live further north. There is more damage with this quake (6.3) than the September one (7.1).
Hearing a lot of fatalities...watch this space.
My thoughts are with all down south..
Well, we are in Christchurch and its been a tough day. A big earthquake frightens the stuffing out of you.
The rescue people are focusing on rescuing people from buildings and cars today & they hope they will be able to move onto securing property tomorrow.
We are okay here, but the folk in the middle of the city took a hammering, and unlike our september 2010 earthquake, this time it hit during the day so we have buses flattened by falling buildings, and unfortunately, fatalities and serious casualties.
Everytime the ground shakes, you wonder if its going to be lights out for you.
This earthquake was predicted by a local weather guru, Ken Ring, based on sunspot activity.
Heres his website - its spooky in its predictions

our rodder buddies and thier family's are safe.

Sadly the four storey office building in Cambridge Terrace that houses Marsh Ins. Brokers has totally collapsed. For those that might not remember,Marsh Ins. was called something like Marsh,.... and .... and there head office was based in one of the World Tower buildings in New York when that shocking act happened and now disaster has struck them again, but this time here in New Zealand. You may wonder why I know this .....well my x wife works for them and as I sit and type this we,the family, only know that she is still trapped in the building and we don't know if she is alive or dead and it is pure hell. And yes she is my x wife but I have always loved her as the mighty person she is.
hope all turns out okay for you whip, devastating event for the whole community.
Gee,whip...thats not good,,this always affects people we know, one way or another,,just dont always see it happen this close,if ya know what I mean..Lynda and I are praying for you and your family, for a good outcome..Besides Todd, and all the other South Island rodders we know,Colins wife[34 3window]NZHRM forum,is down there at a conference,,and had to leave all her belongings in her hotel room, cos no one is allowed in..Thankfully,she is ok..Keep your head up,mate,,she will be ok,too..
Just dont know how much more that city can take..:(
My heart aches for Y'all and our thoughts and prayers are with you.
God's Speed to you all,
Meller

WhiplashT,
My families prayers are going out to your friends and family. I hope your ex wife is found safe and sound. To all of our freinds in NZ thoughts and prayers. Don Jr.
Prayin' for the best outcome Whip man.
I just have been reading some of the accounts on some of the on-line news sources and this one is not good. It kind of hits home when some of your friends, even tho never we've met in person, are involved in a natural disaster. My best wishes and even a prayer go out to you.
i am so sorry to hear this whip. please keep us informed. we are all praying for you.
My NZ brothers & sisters may God grant you peace and strength as you go through this. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
Andy
Whip,
My and my wife's prayers go out to you and your family and that your X will be found alive and well. Same goes to all the rest of you Kiwis, hope all Persons and Rods are well. Keep us posted.
Having been born and raised in Ca., Eureka and the Bay Area, I am no stranger to quakes and experienced moderate one here in the Puget Sound some years ago. You never get used to them.
Keep safe,
Jack.
OMG Whip, so sorry to hear that. Prayers go out for your ex as well as everyone else affected. Please let us know when you have more news.
Don
The Vara family prayers go out to all the folks in NZ.
Whip; I hope and prey they find her safe and sound.
kurt & Denise
Prayers sent for your Xwife Whip.
:( :( :( I can't added any thing that hasn't already been said.
Prayers go out to everyone down under....joe
Thanks, everyone,,even though we are in the North Island,,I had a restless night last night,,its a major disaster down there. Its just so unbelievable, that some are dead, and some, just a few metres away survive..Rescuers are checking the remains of flattened cars,to see if they were occupied at the time, and I just heard a story, where a woman walked out of one building to have a cigarette, and the quake hit,and the building collapsed behind her..
We have some good friends down there, and so far they all appear to be ok..Our prayers go out to all those down there, and we hope there is not too much loss of life, although the 32 confirmed is too much..
I've got a brother and several friends in the area.
So far I've heard nothing, but I'm hoping that that's good news.
To Todd and Whiplash, I hope it turns out all good for you and your loved ones.
I heard that Tombstone (Terry) is safe, although his house is demolished and his kids are very traumatised by the experience.
He was doing some art-work for Noddy for the Beach Hop, and also for Cal for the Hot Rod Revue.
Both of them have told him to forget about it...suddenly; deadlines don't matter any more...what seemed important yesterday is suddenly totally irrelevant.
It's humbling too, to hear the outpourings of prayers and kind wishes from our overseas friends in New Zealand's hour of tragedy...thank-you one and all.
Just heard that friends of ours, Gerard and Annmarie McCloy, (Ahotrod and lo29A on NZHRM site,) are safe.
All good.
Have yet to hear about my brother.
Not much into prayers, but my deepest thoughts and best hopes go out to all you folks!
Whip my family prayers go out to you and your family and Xwife and the rest of NZ. Hope everything turns out ok for ya'll.
Ron
Just got in and heard about this disaster...
My prayers are with all of you, especially those rescue folx...
Keep the faith!
It almost takes anything you can say away.
God speed to all involved.
AmeriCARna was one of the best Meguiar's shows I've seen in a long time. . . Gotta love the New Zealanders!!!!
Prayers are out for all the NZ'ers. The pictures are incredible. Sent an e-mail out to friends who are vacationing in that area. They replied that they left 22 hrs. before the quake. Visited the Cathedral and was staying 3 blocks away. They said they were feeling lucky and also sad for all the people that are suffering.
Very sad news with so many deaths and casualties.NZ is having a tough time with the mining disaster and now this.Have friends in ChCh and thankfully they are safe.Looks like many are still not accounted for so there must be many families having a very hard time.
Its not good down there,Roger..I think theres 65 confirmed dead, still about 300 missing, and now, rescue attempts are hampered by the possibility that one of the buildings they are trying to get into may collapse completely..There is a 6.30pm curfew in the city now, which started 30 minutes ago..There are the odd looters out there too..hope they get caught and jailed..
Our prayers are with you in this time of tragedy. We just heard that a United Airlines plane is due to leave at midnite with a search and rescue team as well as high tech equipment to help in finding people in the rubble hopefully still alive. This team was very successful in Haiti and is very well trained. We will hope and pray they ate successful in their rescue mission.
Ken
A dumb question, but are earthquakes common in that area?
Don
Not till last September..
Don,the whole country sits on/in an earthquake fault,I think...that is,according to the old Readers Digest atlas anyway. We have had a few bad ones, sometime in the late seventies, from memory,in the eastern north island,,did a lot of damage,Inangahua,on the west coast of the south island,[70s]Napier,in the north island, back in the early thirties..and a few others,I have probably forgotten..Its only a small country, and a big quake has far reaching consequences..We quite often have little tremors, just like the ones I experienced while on holiday in California in 1991..but scattered all over the country.Thankfully,we dont have too many like this.I dont know how long this lot is going to take to clean up,but it will be YEARS..The centre of the city is STUFFED...and a lot of the old buildings will have to be totally destroyed,as the bricks and mortar are just not up to it structurally. It is just so devastating.
On another note,we are all grateful for the help offered from different parts of the world, including your government, for search and rescue teams, which we also have coming from our Buds across the ditch,in Aussie..and Asia,I believe..And Lynda,my wife, has posted a link on Facebook to this thread,to show everyone else the support you guys and gal[s] are giving us..Lump in my throat...see ya later..
I saw some coverage on the news last night and it's heart crushing. It may just be me but there have been a lot of earth quakes over the past year.
My prayers are with you there.
My thoughts and, such as they may be, prayers are with my NZ cousins. I believe you all will come through pretty well; it seems to be our nature to do so. Having grown up and lived most of my life in shaky California, I sort of have a feel for what you are going through.
