I know we have all done it in the past but today the roads are to crowded. here is a video of a Mustang and a Camaro racing on a busy public road all caught on video. if you have time check it out.

I bet 90 percent of us on here have been guilty of street racing at one time or another, either organized or just some red light fun. I was arrested when I was 18 for street racing, lost my license for a year, and was facing jail time. Luckily, a good Attorney (Nephew of the Judge) got me off. Things were a lot different back then, very few cars on the road, and the nearest cops were miles away generally. Today the roads are just too crowded and with modern electronics like cell phones, radar, and cameras, it is too easy to get caught.

It only takes a split second for your life and the lives of others to be changed forever, or ended permanently. Looking at that video makes me shudder at what could have happened all the times I drove like an idiot, like those guys.

i dont define " street " racing as "drag racing " on a street .. street racers have no finish line .. we raced to a certain telephone pole or marked off spot and that was it .. no top end stuff ..

I got arrested for it when I was younger.
well technically I got arrested for drunk driving and I didn't have a drivers license (being 15 or so).

anyway, I can understand the need for speed.... thats why I take my son to the track, and the mantra is "this 1/8mile strip costs $20 to race at all night.... I'll give you $20 anytime you want it, but you drive the speed limit on roads."
the other line is "it isn't about killing yourself, it's about living with who you killed."

My son use to go down there and race, but then so did I back in the 70's.
Kids have been street racing down on Hall Str forever.
Sad thing is we & now they, never think they will get hurt.
As we get older we find out we were wrong a lot more times then right, sad thing is some die

sometimes it is amazing how we got to live as long as we have. there were several that were killed my senior year in high school in cars leaving party's and I remember seeing cars tangled up from drag racing on the street as well. I was one of the lucky ones over thirty years ago who made it. I still love drag racing today just where it should have always been on the track. I think we all felt that way once ten foot tall and bullet proof.

yep we use to street race and maybe lot . some maybe still do .... but there were no cell phones on the roads back then or texing . most all the time it was roads at the end of town or the highway i never let a flag man get in front of my gto out of the hole it took a lane and 1/2 .car in back with head lights or just look at the guy and say go

In the santa Clara Valley back in the late 50's and thru the mid 60's we kids used to race down the orchard lanes after the farmers went to bed. The trouble there was the noise would wake the farmers who would summon the cops. When the orchards started to disappear we would race in the replacing industrial parks after the streets were paved but before the buildings were put up. We were lucky back then and don't recall anyone getting hurt or crashing. Good thing we didn't have the machines the kids are racing now or the traffic. When we really wanted to do it right we would go to the friday night grudge races at Fremont Drag Strip. I'm glad those days are long behind me.

It is amazing all of us ole hotrodders are still alive, and I lost some
friends to it both on the road and track. At an early age I raced both
the road and track every week-end...I spent every dime I had to make
sure I had the fastest car in two counties, so every one was gunning for
me including the law...It's a good thing I did not have the blown 496 in
my 57 chev back in the 60's or I would not be typing today...As someone
said, when you are young you think you are bullet proof..

Wow some scary stuff. Since I work swing shifts and everyother weekend, I tend to see some of this stuff on the 101N at midnight. Usually these guys are involved in road rage after a Friday or Saturday night of boozing. It can get real ugly fast. I've had a few close calls because the hiway is only two lanes for an 8 mile stretch. I'd hate to see this stuff on the streets in a city!

Top end racing back in my day. Mostly 55 thru 60 Chev,Ford and Pontiac cars. The cops knew us all and did not try to catch us ,but would come to your house the next day and write you a ticket in front of Mom's and Dad's. I don't think that would hold up in court today. I have seen a lot of my racing buddies injured from road racing. I had one buddy rear end a persons car wide open,killed the person he hit and he survived the fiery crash. It was not a pretty picture. We continued racing after all that. We just felt indestructable. As stated earlier lucky to have made it and glad it's all behind.

As a 21yr old, I can say I have many friends who street race...and at least they find 2:00am spots where they're only endangering themselves. I hate the idea of racing on the street however and I take every opportunity to preach that to my younger brother (18) and those close to me because we have cars that can basically beat anything in town, which provides further reason to refrain from racing because we know we will win haha.

The saddest part to me is that it's really hard to get through to them BEFORE something bad happens. We had a reality check in august when my bet bud was killed on his motorcycle at 17yrs old(not related to racing). It can happen at any time to any of us...but at least know that there is, indeed, at least a few young people out here trying to keep racing off the streets.
