'Dandy' Don Meridith died yesterday of a brain hemorrhage.
He was one of the few sports figures I actually knew years ago. Fun guy, great humor, interesting to talk to.
I've missed your Monday Night Football announcing, Don. Now you are gone. Maybe you can team up with Howard Cosell again and in a better place:CRY:

So many of our celebrity friends passing away lately. As we age it seems to happen more and more. I liked Don too. :(

There was a very nice tribute to Don Meridith a few minutes ago on MNF at half time
Really sorry to hear this about Don. We grew up just a few miles from each other, he in Mt Vernon, Texas and me in Mt Pleasant, Texas they are about 35 miles or so apart. Don played for the Mt Vernon Football team there and was all state for two years. He then went on to SMU where he was an All American and the number 1 draft choice for the first expansion team the Dallas Cowboys. I played against Don several times back in the day, he was a couple of years older than I was and I always held him in High Regard. He had this uncanny ability to throw the football about 80 yds in the air. That was a complettly unusable talent until Dallas drafted Bullet Bob Hayes the worlds fastest human. Hayes was a track man and never played a single down of football until he joined the Cowboys. He didn't seem to matter how far Don could throw the football, Hayes was always able to run under the thing.
So Long Dandy, say high to Coach Landry for me.....

R.I.P. Don,I remember a few episodes He did on the old "Police Story" TV show,He put some grins on my face I wish He had done more acting because He could brighten your day.
Nobody sang it like "Dandy Don" and I was a huge fan of he and Tom Landry.Quote:

Did he drive for NASCAR? I KNOW he wasn't in the NHRA! Perhaps he was a desert racer? 8-)
