    What is the most expensive engine to build?

     



    Question here is what is the most expensive V8 OEM brand name engine to build from the most expensive to the least.I got a idea,but I wanted to see all your opinions.Keep it within reason like all carb minor mods like cam within or close to the same yr and all OEM parts....well sort of etc.Humm on my list first would be the later yr hemi's................

    Parts for Flathead Fords and Ford Y-blocks are crazy,no real changes in the molds for heads or intakes or cams since forever with the exception of John Mummerts and Blue Thunder Y-block parts which are newer tech but also pricey.

    anything competition eliminator!!!

    as far as OEM, hemi's old or new era , flattie's, fords in genral used to be 2x as much but i see the parts rapidly getting cheaper and cheaper.

    For popular engine builds the early Hemi's would be close to the top of the list but from first hand experience for the same level of build the big inch 472/500 Caddys cost about the same.

    I would also suspect that the 455 BOP engines are also not a cheap build.
    I've NEVER seen a car come from the factory that couldn't be improved.....

    older engines that parts are made now in low volume .flat head fords . buick nail heads are pricy . cheap to build older small block chevys in stock form any thing you trying to get big HP numbers out of is going to cost . but you did not throw any$$ numbers out so whats expensive ?

    I think the $$$numbers have gotten closer together on all the more NORMAL ohv engines--not hemis or nailhead-- we actually use very few OEM parts anymore except for the core block--most companies that do after market parts--cams,heads,manifolds, ignitions are fairly even priced on there stuff---

    So--if you are talking about a strker kit type motor with a set of alum heads, cam and lifters plus a carb manifold---your biggest $$$differance will probably come come the parts needed to install it in your particular car--mounts, accessory drives, exhaust, etc

    pricey is anything over 1500-2500 for a STOCK rebuild

    well the parts for the last 65 caddy i price out was 1800 for the master . the nail head i did and i was EZ on the guy was 3800 done . the 36 caddy he pick up the parts . i had more labor then parts .
