The 57-year old wife reportedly threw a coffee cup at them when they arrived on the scene.
The man with half a tongue still left in his mouth and singing Christmas Carols said he didn't want his wife arrested.
The police ignored his plea and took her to jail on possible charges of mayhem and domestic violence.
He went to a hospital to try to get his tongue re-attached.
