Sometimes you win one...
I've most likely posted pics of some of my mutts in the past but this is pretty recent.
Wifie and I have a heard of Great Danes at the Ranch which are great for security and
keep me company and well exercised just trying to keep up...
Anyway, One of our new puppies developed this crappy disease called wobblers syndrome.
At about a year of age, the spinal cord continues to grow and essentially chokes off the nerve
impulses to the rear end of the dog. Many large breeds suffer from this.
Usually the end comes pretty quickly.
Now, there is a new type of surgery where a Surgeon goes in and cuts a notch out of the
vertebrae in the neck allowing it to expand and relieving the pressure on the nerve bundle that
runs through the neck.
We've had two surgeries done on One and a half year old, "Goofus" to accomplish this.
His case was really bad and 7 of his vertebrae had to be modified to relieve and prevent damage
to his spinal cord.
One surgery was 7 hours and the most recent was 8.5 hours.
He had a 10 percent chance of making it but if he did he would have a normal life.
Without the operation he had three months tops.....tough choice.
Anyway, I got a vid of him right after his first surgery which he showed an improvement but still staggers
and has a hard time controlling his butt.
The stills show the scar area and he is still recovering but not staggering at all.
Thought I'd post this in case any of you run into this crappy disease in your pets.
There is now something that can be done about it.
