to hell with that. they are crazy.
I've got a friend that does that down here in florida.
Steve and a bunch of his buddies climed the tower.
It had a sadilite dish on top, who ever built it did something
out of the norm so three of them climed in to the dish.
My friend Steve was still on the tower.
Anyway the plate that the bolts went though to hold the dish on
the tower was rusted thru and gave way.
They all rode the dish down and just before the dish hit the
ground one of them tried to jump out.
When the dish hit the ground it bounced and crushed the one guy
that might have servived. My friend was real torn up about it I can't
imagine seeing 3 of my close friends fall to thier death.
And know there is nothing you can do as they are falling.

There isn't enough money in circulation to intice me to climb a tower like that. Look at all the welds and connections you have to trust......
Mu n@#s are still in my stomach. I'm with Tech on this one!!!!!!

Man!!! I have been very fortunate to live a man's life. 30 Years in the Corps, Shot at and sometimes they didn't miss, over 700 parachute jumps both military and as a civilian, I've been in spots most folks would shy away from if they had any sense. That was the hardest video I ever saw just to "watch" all safe and sound behind this keyboard. I only thought I was nuts, those cats bring a whole nuther meaning to words I can't even say right now, because my heart is beating so fast. DAMN !!!!!!!

Now I'm going to set in the back of the room with the girls.......
Not me. Never ever!! I stood on the glass near the top of the CN tower in Toronto and looked down - gulp
Well, I'll say this... If they were ever waiting on me to climb that pig and fix it,.... their shit is gonna stay broke for a LONG time...
i am with you diesel
I was very surprised to see them "free climbing" without being tied off, and even more surprised by their statement that OSHA allows that process. May be true, but does not seem prudent. Not a job I would take.
All of my comments about those ?people? would be obscene and have to be edited out so I'll just say that they remind me of two famous quotes.
First is: "build it and they will come"
Secondly: "there is one born everyday"
I didn't have to click on it..Got it in an email this morning..watched about 30 seconds of it...Still got jitters from it**)
My uncle that owns the shop where I keep my rod, that is how he made his living. He will tell stories of changing the plane warning lights on the towersfor the Prudential center in Boston, where the maintenance guys escort you to the roof and open the door just to say "you're on your own from here!" LOL.. He would climb onto the fiberglas tower there and with his weight and the wind blowing him around he could look down the side of the building and count the glass panels! He would also tell of doing the lights over some bridges that would always raise the hair on my neck! Or a water tower where the catwalks collapsed behind him after he had passed over and he had to lower himself to the ground with his safety ropes! I never went into the "family business" LOL...
That will tighten up a fellers pucker a bit, even if you do it for a living. I spent a lot of years on tall (?) stuff, and even worked a light job on a 1200 footer; was quite a feeling to be on top of that thing and see an airplane fly by below. And, as big as that thing was, triangular shaped, about twenty feet to the side with a grated platform/catwalk, it felt like you were standing on the head of a pin. ;):D But my norm was from the 90 foot poles you see along the highways to the 200 foot towers you see going cross country carrying the EHV transmission lines for the power grid, and in substation and power plant switchyard construction and maintenance. And, the safest way to climb is to free climb; there's not a bunch of stuff to get in the way, and to have to move every so many feet. One thing that is a fact, though; the higher you get, the smaller the steps and catwalks seem to get. Walking around a six foot wide catwalk on a 200 foot water tower, and you keep bumping into the tank wall as you go; your body just does not want to get too close to the edge. When you start to work, though, you can hang out over the side without more than a serious thought about your safety equipment; you check, double check, and then get on with what you gotta do.
OH! As to the insanity part?, somebody has to do it. :D Me, I don't like close, dark, tight places; I think underground miners are nuts. :whacked:
I got tired just watching the video.
