I think that Hurst alignment pin was 1/4 inch. I remember using a 1/4 inch long bolt because I lost the pin for mine.
As for the pipe cap cutouts, you had to put grease on the threads or the cap wouldn't come off easily. They were also a bear to reach under there, especially when hot.
