    Mi Casa

In a few weeks, we'll be out of Uncle Sammy's housing and moving to the one on the left. In addition to other nice features, it has a good sized garage. Now, if my '34 was here in Italy instead of in storage in Virginia, I could finish it up.

The other photo is the view from the patio.

Two years, 11 months as of today. However, I think the chance to live here and tour Europe is worth the "sacrifice".

Nice but how are you getting on with the language difference and have you scored an early Fiat Topplino for that Hemi to bring home yet..

No more projects for me. The '34 is my swan song. Whatever work I do after I retire will be on that one. Besides, good Topolino bodies are molto expensive here.

I bet Italy is beautiful. Sure looks like it from the pix. Your hot rod can wait, you are creating some memories that you will cherish forever right now. I would be enjoying "real" Italian food as much as possible.

    Molto bene!

Pretty little shack. And I'd bet you're being paid in dollars so almost everyday you get a pay raise as the Euro takes a dump.

    Bob,

One would think that being paid in $$ is an advantage, and that's probably true for base wages. However, Uncle Sugar adjusts other allowances up or down to track the Euro. No griping from me, though. That's only fair, and this type of assignment is awesome.

    Vara,

That's Spanish. In Italy, we say:La mia casa č sbarre di ferro e un allarme, or "My house has iron bars and an alarm system.

Seriously, burglaries are a serious problem here, especially for Americans or other NATO forces/employees, so it's necessary to be very careful when choosing housing.

I hear Ya; In that case be very careful.
I live in Florida and have a Spanish looking house with arch ways and all.
I have installed burgler bars in the arch ways and over the windows,
I also have a 8 foot fence around the property and a 16 cammera
servallance system. Then we have and raise Boxers then last but not least
guns for anyone that may invade our casa uninvited.
Since the economy has taken a tumble the home invasion rate has jumped.
I am hopping to beat it back down a little bit.

In most of Europe, the right to protect one's home is severely limited. You can only apply enough force to stop what they're doing. Causing a burglar serious injury will definitely land you in jail until they sort it out. The police tell us it's better to let them carry off your "stuff."

However, the whole area isn't under siege. One just has to be aware and use common sense.
