This picture was posted in the Cleveland Texas Historical Society Website and supposedly was taken in 1928.
Can anyone help identify the year, make and model of this fine old Car??
If I was to guess, it would only be a guess !

Dodge maybe,,or one of its cousins...Those front fenders dont give me too many clues...Not close enough to get a good look at the badge on the grille shell...One of our older,,umm,more learned friends will know..:D
No, I don't think it s a Dodge as it has wooden spoke wheels and I believe Dodge had solid wheels. My guess would be something like Studebaker, I think that's how you spell it.
as it is today .. every car made then looks the same .. there were about a hunnert car makers back then .. i`d like to meet the girl laying on the bumper :D .. no .. maybe not .. she`d be about a hunnert years old now:HMMM:

I got some new glasses today. What is that on the running board? A portable boat?
There's definitely something sitting on the running board and tied to the cab but nobody seems to know what.
As for the car, we have finally determined thru the help of many Car Guys that it is a 1925 Dodge Brothers Touring Convertible and several others have mentioned that the ladies may be "grrrrls" (google it) - - - as for me, I don't have a clue.

Yea you can tell thats exactly what it is. Look at the picture again and you can tell its the three sections of the boat sitting inside one another strapped to the side of the car.
i believe the car is a 1924 hupmobile a friend had one at a show saturday if i can i will go but and get a picture. jonathan

Some pointers for those who enjoy this sort of thing.
First, the winged Motometer on the radiator is probably the worst component to use for identification. While some manufacturers had the Boyce company make designs for them, these were easily moved from car to car and were popular aftermarket accessories in the '20s and early '30s
As with cars to this day, manufacturers used the grille (or more accurately for this era, the radiator shell) to distinguish their cars. Just as some folks complain today ("all cars look alike, like jelly beans..... or whatever") these old "square" bodied cars look pretty similar, particularly to the casual observation. So if you look at the car we're trying to ID here, the grille shell has a 45 degree angle to the upper corners of the opening (moderately unusual for this period) and the upper part of the shell has in inverse "swoop" to it that continues into the shape of the hood. So just for discussion, both the Dodge and Hupmobiles offered as solutions, they both have rad shells with rounded tops and basically "square" openings. Often another tipper is the emblem on the shell, this one appears to have a V shaped component, though the photo quality isn't good enough to tell for sure.
On an open car like this the windshield shape can be helpful too. If you went to Google or where ever you prefer to look at pics of the Dodge or Hupmobile you see they both have lower stanchions that flair out from the cowl, whereas the car in question rises pretty much straight up.
Other old hands at this will talk about bumpers or fender lines being distinguishing components, and they're correct, but those tend to be more subtle.
The drum headlights and wood spoke wheels are a tip that this is likely a late teens, early '20s car, but of no value as to make since so many used them. So there you go, now search those picture files on the web til your eyes fall out!;)
My brother had a 28 oldsmobile sedan that closely resembled that. Same looking wood spokes for wheels

Great pic BTW - - - all of the sites and pics that I have looked at show the Dodge Brothers using spoked wheels well into the 20's - - - - I may be wrong but I'm still leaning towards the '25 DBTC:confused:
Okay,,spice it up a bit..Who made Chandlers? Durants?and were they still being made when this particular car was available?? I know there are a few other brands out there that rose and fell over a five or ten[twenty]year time frame...it could be one of those,too.:confused:
But yes,the Dodge still has possibilities,,,maybe...[dont want to start a fight here,ya know] :D

Well atleast we figured out what is sitting on the side of the car.
I think it is a Maxwell Touring Sedan. If memory serves me right. My Dad had an Essex with similar features,but it's not an Essex.**) **)
An old boss of mine had a 24 Chrysler that looked a awful lot like that.

Front fenders are almost identical,,Willys Knight?maybe??:confused:
The fenders are similar to my'31 Chrysler,(raised edge) but not exactly the same. I remember seeing a 27 or 29 Buick with fenders like those.
Yea look at the bumper brackets and surrounding parts. It looks more like that Whippet than that 25 dodge. Vehicles back then look so similar.
