im a big smokey fan,i have a 2nd gen formula and 2nd gen trans ams.
another great show back then was corvette summer. I tryed one of those vented hoods like the vett on corvette summer on my 77 vette. Didnt look right with out some 70s style fender flares so i took it off and sold it.

I got to meet him in Vegas one time at the Lady Luck.
I was a break in black jack dealer and he was at the
table next to mine. He asked the pit boss if he could deal.
So he got up and delt a while, people were lined up to watch.
He was having a good time and there is no mistaking his laugh.

My older brother had a 76 T/A and it was silver with a built 400.
The springs had been heated up to lower it, and man - o - man could that thing corner.
Thats back when they had the single head light on each side.
Loved that big bird on that shaker hood and the sound was something else.
They sure had thier own sound, we had glass pac's on his.

Here is the 1977 T/A I owned . I also owned two 78's and one 79 they were black .
In the 1979 movie Hot Stuff Jerry Reed drove around in a cool metallic blue '79 Formula that gets blown up. Just after it gets blown up his character says he only has another 782 payments to make on it!:D
Burt was offered the astronaut role in Terms of Endearment, but turned it down to do Stroker Ace (1983) because he promised a friend. Jack Nicholson was second choice for the astronaut and went on to get the Academy Award for best actor.:(
Poor Burt, he sacrificed himself to entertain us!

I just saw Burt on some TV show where they recreated a modern version of the Smokey T/A. Burt doesn't look real healthy IMO, kinda thin and not very peppy. I hope he is ok.

I pretty much like all of his "box office flicks" but the thing that I respected more about Burt was the way he used the Geniuses in the entertainment field to the best of their ability - - - - - speaking of Jackie, Jerry, Sally, Dom and many others. Good casting just plain ROCKS :cool:
As far as Smokey & The Bandit goes; it takes a great actor to make a big 180 HP car look fast, but IMO, Jackie Gleason was the real star of the show. Thats why they don't call it The Bandit and Smokey. haha.
But I am a huge fan of Burt Reynolds' films. Smokey & the Bandit, Stroker Ace, Hooper, Cannonball Run and Navajo Joe are some of my all-time favorites.Quote:

All great comedic car movies. But cannot compare to "The Gumball Rally" The first movie of this this type and still the best. :toocool:

I still like Smokey and the Bandit maybe because of it filming in Georgia. I remember them setting up there trailers on the loop exit ramp at hwy 20 and Ga 400. I could be wrong but I think someone in Georgia built the engine for the movie car. I also read I think they used the 55 from two lane black for some of the sound bites.

Yep! I love that 1955 "Golden Anniversary Oldsmobile" he drove in the movie! Never heard of it before the movie don't think they really existed.

Got a little story about that olds.Way back in my youth on a saturday night my buddies and i were out dragging douglas (local main street).There on the side of the road was the 55 olds from the movie.The cops had pulled the owner over with a half a bottle of JD in the front seat.We piled out of the car and went to look at the olds.The cops were going to tow it.The owner was throwing a fit about towing it.They asked him if he had someone to drive it.He turned around and throw me the keys and asked me to drive it home for him. Must have been desperate because i didnt know him at all.I did drive it home for him. Took about 20 minutes. A few things i remember about the car were the engine really had a loud rattle,loose lifters maybe. The upholstery was done in gold and black naugahyde and was real hard to sit in. just wanted to slide around in it. the sun visor still had all the stuff on it from the movie. Sad part is i never saw the car again,i just kept on chasing girls night after night.

It would be fun to build one up and paint it like the one in the movie. I actually found one on craigslist, but it seemed a bit steep, though I have no idea what they are worth?

Cannonball Run (1981) is the reason that movie gets overlooked, and unfairly so, it was done only one year after Brock Yates organised the first real life Cannonball Run. There was a sexually sizzling gas station scene between Raul Julia and a young Colleen Camp, and a funny one where Gary Busey tries to take a leak into a plastic bottle whilst the Z28 negotiates a series of corners.
