    Aarp

I am a member of Aarp but I really know if there is a benefit to being a member? Tried to find a chat room but could not. Do you guys and gals that do qualify have any experience's where membership helped you? I tried life insurance but there was no benefit there for me.

They keep sending me literature but I toss it in the garbage can. I think that has something to do with me refusing to believe I am old enough to qualify.

Itoldyouso, I know what you mean. It was a bad day at black rock when I got my first mailing from them.

The only reason I belong is for their discounts at hotels, etc. Their political views - are not mine, but that's a personal beef as IMO they should be apolitical. When they started pushing Obamacare is when I really came close to cutting up my card. They stand to benefit BIG TIME with their way overpriced gap insurances that conforms to the new Gov't programs. Nothing else they sell is priced competitively for seniors. They prey on many older folks problems with electronic devices (computers, mostly and even phones with push a number for....) and their lack of ability to do product searches. If you join, be ready for a barrage of offers in the mail that are too good to be true.

Have yet to find anything that AARP "provides" that is even comparable in price with what I can do on my own ........ they seem to be in business just to feather their own nest

Yeah, I'm a member too, but I'm not even sure that their polital "policing" is in the best interests of most of us any more. They seem to be willing to sell their name and have some questionable affiliations. I have yet to really "save" any money using AARP.

I hear you guys. Thanks for the reply. I have been a member a couple of times over the past 10 years and am wondering why. I have not gotten anything for my membership other than towing which is picky. You can get better elsewhere.

Do you know why AARP is of little value to you? It's because you have enough sense to be able to go find your own "deals" on what you are interested in. AARP caters to senile oldsters who need someone to tell them what to wipe with......like the posters above said, AARP doesnt give them any "deals".

And it seems like every other supplimental insurance program out there says they are "AARP affiliated." Like you guys have said, I feel there are no benefits to me, so I just keep passing.

In my usual subtle way I'll add what I feel. AARP actually stands for burying your children and grandchildren in debt with a false promise to "stand up for senior rights". They function very much like too many of today's Unions do..........great for the management, while working against the genuine, long term interests of those they claim to represent.

Never have joined, never will........can't be bought with so called discounts that can be found elsewise.

If you want tons of "Junk Mail" trying to sell you overpriced insurance please join up If you write to them about any senior issues,it will go in the round file and you will never hear from them. They are a total waste, you can get low insurance rates and discounts that are useful from AAA.

The only benefit that I get is their Rx Insurance plan which saves me about 60% on my meds. My biggest gripe against them is they start billing you for your membership 8 months before it is due and they are relentless. I have complained but to no avail.
