I just got a call from Joe. He is about to be wheeled into surgery to have a hole in his colon repaired. It was caused by Diverticulitis. Please keep him in your prayers. As soon as I hear from him after the surgery I will let everyone know how he is doing.
He wanted us on the forum to know what was going on so we would not wonder where he is.

Wow. Thanks for letting us know Pat. Hope he does well. Joe is one of those guys who is really dedicated to his family and I know they are foremost in his mind right now. Was this something he knew was coming or unexpected? Please tell him our prayers are with him.

He told me he has been experiencing stomach pain and last night it became unbearable so he went to the Dr. Not sure if it was to the emergency room or via a regular appointment.
That diverticulitis is miserable stuff.............
Assuming Joe will be reading this when he gets out, have a good, successful recovery buddy!

Just had a call from Joe. Due to an infection that they discovered at the last minute, they decided not to cut on him yet. Will wait till they have the infection cleared out and then do the surgery. May be a week or two. That way they do not need to use a colostomy bag to avoid the surgery area. So keep him in your prayers and hope they get the infection whipped pronto. He's not a happy camper at the moment, but keeping a stiff upper lip as the Brits say.

I've had diverticulitis. It hurts!!! Some antibiotics, luckily, took care of mine. And my wife - she now has a foot shorter set of innards.
My best to you, Joe. I have had the pain myself, and a couple of friends have had surgery for it.
I hope it all works out for him, he's in our prayers.

I'm talking to Joe as I type. He had a bad night last night with a 103 fever and sweats. Doc changed the antibiotic and now he is feeling much better and actually got to eat real food. A turkey sandwich, chips and apple pie. Tasty! Doc says they will watch now and if the tear heals no surgery needed. Probably home in 2-3 days. Then back in 4-6 weeks to check up. Joe says if you are over 40 Metamucil is your friend. Feeling much better and thanks for all your thoughts and prayers.

Had a bout with that 2 years ago, hope I never have to expriance it agian! Very painful. Hope Joe's doing better. Get well buddy.

I wish him well . I to know about that . Having had Colon Cancer . Yes Lot's of pain and you have to go back for more Follow up's . One of the worse thing's is all the Time's they Put you to Sleep to re-Check you . Still thank God for being there for us all . Life can Change Just Like That .

As Pat said on friday I eneded up in the hospital w/a tear in my colon and an infection/abscess somewhere. They gave me all kids of antibiotics but the fever would go up and down to 103+. Early Monday my doc talked to one of his buddies who did infections & he suggested another antibiotic. Within 4-5hrs after getting the first batch I could phyically tell the difference. I did run a low grade fever for a day & then everything went back to normal. They had been running blood work & each time the count kept dropping back towards normal.
Well it seen that since everything went great yesterday & throughout the night they decided today to boot my butt out, which made my day because I was tired of being there.
I would honestly have to say other then my back going out that this is the most painful experience I have ever gone through in my entire life and hope that I never ever have to go through it ever again.
