Don't know what it's worth, but I do know I like your car better.
Mike
Thanks Mike. My dream car is a 32 hiboy, hopefully one of these days I'll get one.
about 30 grand too much if you ask me .. where is 38 thou in that ?
I saw a lot of cars for sale at NSRA Burlington a couple of weeks ago - most MUCH nicer looking then that one - and for a heluva lot less. Quite frankly - yours is much better. Remember - the economy and prices are (way) down. This one? Wishful thinking!!
The "Icons of Speed..." auction was this past weekend at the Petersen Museum. It was no reserve on everything there and some of the prices were just flat out shocking. The market has gotten very selective. Just to give you an idea, a '29 on '32 rails that really DOES have history sold for $33k plus 10% buyers fee. This car was at the first GNRS, drove in, was disassembled and reassembled on the show floor to demonstrate to the viewers how a hot rod was built. The car was completely restored a few years ago. With that documented history, condition, and vintage equipment it had it was a steal. But that's the market today. A couple Roth creations there went for half the pre-auction estimates.
I'm guessing you want to trade your sedan and this guys story sounds like he'd be a prospect. Market value wise the two cars may be similar in value, but then that is only true if two people can agree. If his car is in fact gennie steel, had an original firewall and floors, had a more traditional interior and were a hiboy (along with quite a few more things that are "wrong" with the car) he'd stand a better chance of getting his money.
Hes asking too much, and your not asking enough , just my opinion
Here's the kicker..........
I did offer to trade him and told him that his 4 grandchildren would fit in my car like he wants. I offered an even trade and we meet in the middle (distance wise) with the cars. He said he would trade but needed cash too. He said that he had it appraised and it appraised for $48,000, and it would have appraised for more but due to the economy it did not.
Youther, Have you had your car accurately appraised lately? Then you could compare appraisals and settle all doubt as to if the deal was fair or not.
Just a thought.
Jerome
I was trying to deal with this guy also--and got the same response. I didnt think it had the value in it either because of the hand holder interior.
Appraised for $48 ???????
His brother musta been the appraiser.
15 on a good day.
I'm a certified appraiser, and I don't think I'd waste my time on that 1
Unless mine are worth $100,000 and I doubt that.
With all due respect to those guys on here who do appraisals, in many cases you can get any number you want from some appraisers. Artificial numbers can be useful for insurance purposes and cheap talk over your beverage of choice, but when it comes time to move a car the only appraiser whose opinion has any REAL validity is the one with a bag full of Benjamins.
This guy's car is advertised in the single largest car marketing tool in the world. If he's right about the value he puts on it, it will sell, maybe not on the site but in offline traffic generated by being advertised there. Same for the appraisal that's supposedly low because of current market conditions. Again, if that were accurate he'd have bidding proving it.
I saw a full fendered virgin 3 w 32 at K-zoo that a guy was driving for 15k he was the talk of the show fri-sat he was gone:CRY::CRY:
Bob-- You are right to a certian point.
Most of the "True" appraisers will write what they see, and the bottom line has nothing to do with the economy.
True honest parts, material, labor and condition.
I usually write mine @ replacment cost not resale, as most are written for insurance purpose's.
The guy who want's me to inflate the sheet for what ever reason will be told "Pay me for my trip out here, and then find a crook to write it for you"
Don't need to deal with people like that as my rep with the industry is on the line.
Great thread –
The question of “what’s my car worth” has been around since the first owner of a Model A wanted to sell or trade his rig off for another one. I think we need to remember that cars are a lot like houses in that an “appraisal” can give us a probable point of departure for negations on an actual sale. I have a friend who used to appraise only Mustangs and he was very good at it. More often than not, people would buy his services and then complain that he didn’t appraise the car correctly. What they were really saying is that they wanted a certified appraisal to be higher so they could use it in justification for a sale or to have an inflated value for insurance purposes.
My son has a 1971 Chevy half-ton pickup - long bed, 350 automatic, real clean but nothing real special. Three years ago, he was hit by an individual who had lost control of their vehicle and come across the center line and it was, by their own admission, one hundred percent the other driver’s fault. Damage was estimated at $2,500. When the other party’s insurance called, they informed me that they “would probably total the truck due to its age.” I insisted that they have an independent appraisal - to which they agreed. Their appraiser came back with a value “between 12 and $15,000” and they repaired the truck. Is the truck worth $15K? Well, it was on that day.
As to the particular case in-point here, the vehicle is worth what you’re willing to pay. I am not a ’32 guy, however, I agree with other postings here and would say that the value is greatly inflated. I really like your car and believe it to be worth a lot more that the ’32 in question. In his add he states:
“The engine is a 327 punched 60 with 11 1/2 to 1 pistons. The cam is a crowller with a lot of lift and duration. It has an old school three 2s with 3 rochester carbs and progressive linkage. Double hump heads 202 valves. Its too much for the car and for the fuel of today but the new owner can detune it if its to much for him or her.”
This scares me a bit and I read – “engine will need some work – maybe a lot” (and I don’t know what a “crowller cam” is, probably a “Crower” would be my guess?). I guess I’m skeptical. I go for one of DA34’s in a heartbeat as the quality oozes from every square inch of his creations.
My 2 Cents,
Glenn
Yeah Glenn, I read the ad also, how do ya take power out of an engine????
This guy is a fisherman, not a carguy.
Scary description on the car.:whacked:
BTW -- Thanx for the Kudo's on my builds
Guess I got it right after practicin for over 40 years!
Back at ya - If I were a '32/34 guy, I commission you as I really like the look, stance and amenities that you add to your cars. Anyone who can make a car look like you do has my deepest respect. God gave you some "extra" talent and I really enjoy seeing how you've used it!
Yeah I have always loved DA34GUY's cars. If I had the money I would buy one right now.
Bitter/Sweet News. My baby sold today...........
On a better note I will get another in the future.........
0 rating buyers always make me nervous.........hopefully you were able to pre-screen the guy and verify he's for real. Congrats if he is. AND you'll have cash, which makes it much easier to negotiate on price than trying to work a trade on the next one.
Hey Youther, Ya ready for a 32 now????
Just happen to have 2 For Sale.
Seems the guy has had a change in heart to how much he wants for the car. He has relisted it on ebay for $29,000 buy it now. Still over priced in my opinion.

Denny--
No Motor problem, Just use an old set of headers for run in then put New S.S. headers on after ENGINE is broke in.
BTW a motor is electric and an internal combustion is an ENGINE!
Youther--- Maybe the guy will get realistic and relist it the next time @ 15K
He might get a bid.
