Poor Dave is really taking a beating here
Today is the wild one, Talladega!!!
Good news-bad news is that qualifying was rained out and the chase cars start up front....and NASCAR is trying to limit the bump drafting---fat chance!!!:LOL::LOL:
Man, what I would give to be sitting in one of those cars on those high banks cruizin' along at 195 per!!!!!!!!!!
Say what you want about the COT but they're safe!!!! Ryan Newman just throughly crash tested his--and after they cut the roof off the car he walked away from it!!!! Got to give a well done award to NASCAR for designing and enforcing the rules on a very stout car!!!!!!
Unfortunately, NASCAR must no longer trust the driver's enough to allow them to race.....Frickin' restrictor racing.....I don't claim to have the answers, but Talladega is really turning out to be a laugher!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and the ending was just as sick as the rest of the race.... I'm going to the garage, that fiasco sure as heck wasn't racing!!!!!
.....and another crappy restrictor plate race bites the dust tho I do like the fact that MacMurray finally won another. I do agree about Keselowski. He does the same bonehead moves in the Busch ...oops Nationwide series. If he doesn't maim someone he'll do it to himself.
Now - on to the next ho hummer of a track
I have missed something here guys, havent seen any NASCAR racing for quite a few years,as its not followed down here, only by us people with digital tv,who like motor racing..What are these restrictor plates all about??
But obviously,PC is creeping into evrything, even motor racing..After yesterdays crash at Talladega, the call goes out,''is motor racing getting too dangerous''?OOHH,surely not,,
Everyone including the drivers hate restrictor plates. The plates force the drivers to avoid lifting their foot at all costs....yesterday was a great example of how slow the cars could accelerate to their top speed....if you lifted, you were going backwards fast.
However, NASCAR is trying to keep speeds down....yesterday proved that cars can fly (literally). There is a huge liability factor with all the people sitting in the stands, etc.
Instead of restrictor plates, they surely looked at an option to take the size of the engine down at the superspeedways.....mandate a smaller engine....say 302 cubic inches.....this kills speed but does it have the same effect as a restrictor plate? My guess is that it probably does....no acceleration.
Somewhere there is a solution......the cars need to accelerate, the fans need racing, and NASCAR needs to keep the flying cars grounded.
When you take any object and make it so as to have downforce---turn it over and it has upforce(lift-----) result---unidenified flying objects---but in nascar they put numbers on them so they know what garage/pit to take the wrecks to
But Dave you looked at my avator!!!!
Well, another HoHum track today--Texas.... But hey, we're in Texas and my man Smoke is in a red and white #14 car..... He's gotta win it!!!!!
Other then the bump in turn 1, looks like it's another who's got the most horsepower race, though with the bump I suppose shock and spring package could come in to play, too..... Betcha all them crew chief's spent a bit of time on the dyno's--Shock and Engine both--last week!!!!!
:LOL:and the good news is, Jimmy Johnson crashed on the 3rd lap, Mark Martin got a top 5 and is now only 73 points behind that young pup Johnson kid!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Old age and treachery still has a good shot at the championship!!!!
Smoke did good, solid top 5 finish!
Oh yeah, that other Bush kid one, Kurt in his Penske Dodge....
I swear I don't understand the animosity towards Jimmie Johnson nor the admiration for Martin. Martin has always been a good driver but thats really it just good, granted he is better than a lot of those dudes, but he has never been good enough for example to win a Championship. Now thats not a problem for Jimmie Johnson, now is it? He is good enough to win at least three in a row, thats a fact.
Martin "Today" is doing a real good job of playing his new role. That would be "Humble Harry" but I remember the Mark Martin of just a few years ago. The Martin were no matter what went wrong he always had someone besides Mark to blame.
Time will tell who deserves the championship with the key word being "Deserves" If its Martin I will applaud that accomplishment even though I am not a Mark Martin fan. But I wonder how many of the folks who are Martin fans will applaud Jimmie Johnson if he pulls number 4 Off??
RS
I will never say the 48 team is not the best COT team ever.. That doesn't mean that,as a fan I want to see them win 4 cups in a row. Not that I blame them for winning, I just want to see someone beat them.. They have the boring track set up down pat. Texas is one of the most boring tracks on the circiut. The only way a race has any drama there is if the guys are running out of gas.
Well with two more semi boring tracks coming up - Phoenix and Homestead, the 'powers' at NA$CAR might as well just give Johnson the trophy now. To make this ridiculous "chase" format a bit more interesting, they should at least have a road circuit included in the 10 race schedule (and a dirt track race as well:LOL::LOL: - yeah right).
Jimmy has won Phoenix twice but has never won Homestead. Personally I would like to see it come down to a last race shoot out between Martin & Johnson..
As far as no one wanting to see Johnson win. It's the same old thing that I saw at all race tracks over the years,No matter what track, or who the driver, if he was a constant winner, every body hated him no matter how nice a guy he was. Then when he gets to the point of his carreer that he doesn't win, then he's all washed up and has no business on the track. And then when he retires he suddenly becomes a hero and a legend and everybody loves him again..:whacked:;)**):HMMM::LOL: Go figure........
Well, I think they should keep one of the tracks, heck if nothing else a guy can watch the start, take a nap, watch the finish and really miss nothing.... Us old guys do need our nap time, you know????:LOL:
I still think they need to take a long, hard look at the new track in Iowa for a Sprint race, do away with 1 of the 1 1/2 mile tracks, and maybe even add a dirt race!!!!! Anything other then a whole flock of 1 1/2 mile tracks.... I do realize they're not all the same and each track takes an entirely different chassis setup.... But if you want to keep the fans, and attract more, better get some new tracks in the schedule someplace!!!! Heck, I wish they still ran Rockingham! that would be a chase track!!!!!!!!!!!
OK... Keep Texas and name it the Ambien speedway...Run the sominex 500 there and give the Sealy posturepedic award to the fan who can stay awake the whole race...:D
Man, now that is one heck of a promotion plan!!!!! Seriously though, it's exactly what I did Sunday--watched the start (and Jimmy's little wreck), took a nap, woke up and watched Dodge win this year's fuel mileage contest!!!!!! A perfect day!!!!
I dunno, that brand new 7/8 mile track in Iowa sure did have a great ARCA race!!!!!
How about no cubic inch limits, and no tracks longer then a mile unless it's a road course??????
Dang, that Johnson kid did it again.... Gonna take a miracle next week, but Mark still has a shot at it!!!!
Fan of his or not - he IS good when it comes time for the big trophy and bucks. The geriatric brigade is still working on him tho. And as usual, Little E screws up again and takes out a bunch - twice. How many chances can you get?? And why do the fans still 'adore' him?
Yeah, old Junior was driving about 1/2 lap ahead of his abilities again.... Was also good to see Jeff Burton up there again!!! One more chance in Homestead...slim but it's still a chance...
That whole 48 car team is so dang good!!! Got to give it to Hendricks, he sure does know how to hire the right people!!!
Saw an hour of highlights this morning at 6.30...Marcos Ambrose seems to be doing fairly well for himself,,must be hard to get in amongst the NASCAR teams, specially as an Aussie driver...got a plug from the commentator too.
I would like to see some Americans take on the Bathurst 1000,the legendary Mt Panorama, maybe an exchange driver situation...some of your guys having a biff around the Aussie and Kiwi tracks, and vise versa..:cool:
It's hard to get into a top NA$CAR team regardless of who you are. The foreign drivers don't have "credentials" that start with karting at an early age up through local short tracks that can be easily followed by the big owners. There are several non-US drivers racing in the NA$CAR Sprint Cup series, but often just as specialists in road racing. Ambrose was able to hook on with a pretty big team early in the lower series, the Busch, now Nationwide and do fairly well. Now he has a ride with a well funded team and is doing pretty well there as well. Most folks seem to like Ambrose and his driving style and feel he will do pretty well (and he is from Tasmania, not the mainland:LOL:)
As far as Aussie drivers, there is at least one (who's name esacapes me) competing in the sprint car ranks and doing well.
Now, how 'bout someone from NZ??
Some of the WOO sprint car guys still go over to Australia in our winter for some racing....Used to be a regular deal, don't know how many go anymore--used to be 4 or 5 every winter....
Then of course there's Grubnic in NHRA, he gets a bit better every season
IC2,thanks for the info,,Tasmanian, well, that conjures up a little tale,,its fairly widely known[?]in Aussie, that Tasmanians have two heads, [so I am told],bit of a monster issue or something..but,yes,Ambrose is fairly well liked and a fair driver too..I,among others,am watching his progress with interest,,as far as Kiwis go,you dont want Greg Murphy up there,he is/was a good driver, but has an ATTITUDE,and I for one dont want to see our name besmirched by him..:( There are several Kiwis who do the Aussie/Kiwi V8 series who keep the rivalry up between the two countries.
It would be good to see some Kiwis up there, maybe we could trial Scott Dixon in a car with a roof...:D,
Dave,we have a lot of Americanscome down here for our speedway season, both in sprint cars and the midget cars,in fact is was you guys who got us onto VW engines..Sleepy Tripp was coming down here for years and bringing us fresh drivers to play with,it was quite humbling to here his comments on how he loved coming down here to play in our yard..and we hope you guys continue to come down in the future.
Unfortunately, the main track for the action is 4 1/2 hours away from where we live,so dont get there now..
I always wanted to make the trip for the winter, just never got hooked up with the right people....probably because I never did really pursue it, I guess... Still on my list of things I wanna do some day!!!! Heck, maybe I'll find a good site "over there" sometime and post my resume, doubt if anyone would want to hire a crippled up old geezer anyhow!!!!!:LOL::LOL: I've caught a bunch of the races in Australia on the tube, can't remember the class, think it's the one that Ambrose used to run in....anyway, some really great racing!!!!! Any of that around your neighborhood??????
Dave,we have a small track a couple of hours south of here,Manfeild,a tight little circuit for the V8s,but there have been the odd truck racing days as well,The Taupo circuit is about three and a half hours north, which also incorporates a drag strip on the back straight, and also,we have the Hamilton street circuit which is set up for the Aussie/Kiwi series, tight racing, lots of bruising....:eek:Auckland has Pukekohe circuit, has been there for years, all classes of motor racing, thats about four hours north...If ya google those names, have a look, try Bathurst 1000,see what Ambrose has done in the past..AND,,,whose old?I am only three years behind you,,I aint old,[yet]:D:D
Well, today is the last one!!!! Jimmy would have to fail miserably to give Mark a shot at the title, but stranger things have happened I guess!!!! Anyway, no matter how the race comes out, Rick Hendrick is the real winner, man, what a season for all his teams!!!! Hate to admit it, but that dang Johnson kid just might have a future in NASCAR.......
A boring race, but Hamlin won it.... Jimmy made history, 4 championships in a row... What a team!!!!
well MR. weinerschnitzel won the championship, BORING
