I know that for the most part it is unacceptable to trailer a rod to a show or event. BUT.....what if it's behind one of these and it's where you're staying for the show??? :confused:;)
Just bought this today and my first trip will be to the Redneck Rumble in Nashville Tn in September.

Does it really matter what anyone else thinks about trailering to shows? Or is what is best for you and your family the most important?
That appears to be a very nice RV, but there can be problems using a Motor Home as a tow vehicle for a car and trailer as opposed to a towed Vehicle being towed on the ground. The problem "CAN" arise as most Motor Homes have a limited, and sometimes very limited, tow rating. It doesn't make a lot of sense that a big ole Motor Home won't be rated high enough but the vast majority of them are not. I guess when you figure the weight of the chassis converted to a Motor Home it is easier to get a grip on.
I had a Chevrolet Top Kick Chassis with a Duramax Diesel, Allison 6 Speed push button automatic that I towed for awhile with. This Motor Home was miserable to tow with so I went another way. I had quite a trailer and loaded it was a load, but also wasn't rated very high. You may need to check into that aspect.
Nice looking rig though and I am sure that you guys will be very comfortable in it.

Cool RV...........a person could live in that thing forever. :D We just had this discussion the other night, talking about going to Turkey Run in November. I made the comment I am thinking of not taking my car at all because for the little bit of time you actually get to use your car there it almost isn't worth it. Dan was saying he doesn't think he could sleep well at night with his car sitting alone in the hotel parking lot. He is actually thinking of putting it in an enclosed trailer so it can be locked in overnight.
So, I don't exactly have the same "if you ever see this car on a trailer call 911" mentality I once had. I can see the advantages of having one at times.

I agree with what others have said about trailering a car to a show.... It's your money, do as you wish and forget what others think.
Years ago, I wanted to take my restored Model A to a car show in my home town. Had I drove it, I would have needed to take side roads and leave the night before. Since I'm a big guy, there was not much room either so after 100 miles, I start becoming a Pretzel. So since I owned a trailer and a truck, I loaded it up and took it to my home town.
I won an award and after picking it up someone made a rude comment about trailering the car. It pissed me off that someone would say something about driving a 75 year old original car around a major metropolitan area (MPLS/St. Paul) all on back roads to get there only to be uncomfortable the majority of the time. For me, I generally keep my comments to myself, but some just feel they must vocalize them. I've trailered my cars since that time too. I don't care what others think anymore.

I've trailered my stuff to any event more then 100 miles from home for better then 30 years.... Usually the one's whining about trailered cars might have drove 4 miles to the event.... As Jerome mentioned, I've heard the snide comments from others from time to time.... And driven past a few of them comfortably in my toter with the heater on and wipers going in some nasty rainstorms!!!!! I've also had the misfortune of seeing a number of these drivers involved in accidents on the road, usually cuz some dummy is talking on their cell phone, not paying attention, and in one particularly bad wreck in Nebraska cuz a semi driver was so busy looking at all the Hot Rods on the road, he didn't notice the roadster in front of him before he clobbered the back end of it!!!!!
I've already done my share of the driving to events, including South Dakota to the LA Roadster's Father's Day Show...... Guess I have the right to haul my car if I want.
There are all kinds of reasons to trailer or to drive. Some cars are not especially practical (or safe) to drive as some have mentioned. It's a personal choice. I built/set up my car to be a driver. It's a good comfortable road car, it's reliable and it is well insured. And.... I really love to drive it! Part of my enjoyment and satisfaction are the smiles and thumbs up I get from other people on the road and the conversations with folks at the gas station or restaurant. These conversations are often quite different than the ones you might have at a car show. Admittedly it is hard to compete for some awards with folks that have a true show car, but that is a trade off I'll take. The cool thing is we are all out there with our cars, we are keeping them in the public eye for many people to enjoy. We each can do this our own way.

Dogtag; I pulled a trailer just like that for years, had a blast.
Used to know all the good truck stops around the country,
but I've been off the road for ten years or so now.
I beleive that truck stop is in Oregon in your photo.
My favorite used to be the Giant Express truck stop in

The group that I travel with all choose to drive. Personally, I have tremendous amount of respect and admiration for driven cars. Just because I choose to drive, does not give me the right to belittle trailered cars and their owners. It's a personal choice. Both my rods are '34 Fords, a steel 5-window and a 'glass roadster. In '07 I took part in, along with some 65 cars, in a Cruise starting in Vaughn, ON, just north of Toronto and ending 10 days later in Victoria BC. (www.canadianrodder.com)This year, 85 cars went to the East Coast! Yes, I love to drive! I'm taking the roadster to Kalamazoo in three weeks, a 12 hour drive, one way!

I drive to events, but if I had a trailer and something to tow it with, I would trailer my roadster, not to local or one day events but to shows that are 2 or 3 days long. I also don't sleep well with my car parked in the hotel lot.

Especailly when you got drunks comming and going all night long.
And it allways seems like they have to be in the next room!
If you ain't worring about them stealing it, your worried about them hitting it!

I appreciate all the coments.....Actually it was a tongue in cheek question....more a way to show off my new RV.....While I have never before towed a vehicle to a show (and I was planning on driving my Belair before I got the RV)....I wouldnt give to schlitz what anyone thought of my car on a trailer! I was originally only going for the day on Saturday, but now, I can tailgate at the park outside the show on Friday night, and swap beers and stories with my fellow rv/rodders!! Dont get any better then that in my opinion!!...:)
I DRIVE my car to all events, near or far. Last year I DROVE my 56 TBird from NJ to Oregon. As far as I am concerned, there is nothing like the feeling that comes from driving your car to an event. Afraid to leave it in a motel parking lot? I have done this for 30 years without a problem.
I can see it if the car is like the guy with the stock Model A.
Well, while my 51 Belair is a very nice riding machine, and I would'nt be afraid to drive it anywhere....It would be pretty stupid for me to drive the motor coach and have my girlfriend drive the Belair........Anyway.....I'll be trailering the car, enjoying the ride in my airride RV and then enjoying the rod and camping experience together!...:DQuote:

Vara, The top platform is Hydraulic. Cool idea in a trailer but the most miserable piece of crap I ever did tow.
dogtag, I got me a couple of them Casull's but you be careful man don't touch that thing off anywhere near your car, the muzzle blast alone scroch's paint and the vibration will test all of your welding skills.

Personally I drive my stuff, BUT then I never leave the state either. There are plenty of local to Mn shows to attend. I do say this however, I will never vote for a car trailered over a driven car if I know it is. With the exception of Gennies, show or race only cars -World of wheels, Sema ,GNRS etc.. , Ever try to drive a Model A or T 30 mi's, Its not a trip, its an adventure or a gennie 39 Chevy at freeway speeds? I have a couple reminders on my scrap pile to remind me to NEVER drive a 30's to 54 Chevy over 55. But then I am a cranky ol' fart who will not vote for F'glass cars either. ( NO, I DO NOT want to open that snake pit here-My opinion + MY vote). There is a guy here who trailers everywhere, Even 10 mi's. But parks a few blocks away and drives in to events. For awhile he claimed to have driven from home until he got caught. His cars are world class cars he build s and custom machines parts for himself - the man is a craftsman who build his own stuff. I admire his cars and have voted for his over so called Big Name builders because of it. Only at the larger national level shows but not our local level Mom n Pop shows.
Thsi is easy....pay one tow bill due to a problem that is your fault or not and you will wish you had the trailer.
I drive my cars/trucks often.
But due to an idiot on the road I had to get one towed back home....cost me $1200.
Now I do my share of towing.
Going to Shades of the past....there are 8 of us going we are taking one chase truck with trailer just in case
I won't mention any names, but I once got raked over the coals by a poster here for suggesting that I was going to trailer my car becuase of family reasons......:)

As far as never having someone mess with your car I know more then a few that have had their rides taken. I had a cherry 67 mustang taken, my Dad had a 63 T - Bird hard top convertable taken and my wife had a 72 454 corvette taken before we met.
So I'm glad you guys have been lucky, Just last month someone broke my wing window
on my 72 ford pickup trying to get into it. Kurt

Man, I tell ya these days there are so many loonies and totally distracted drivers on the road today I'm tempted to tow the 1 1/4 miles to our local club show!!!!! Coming back from Sioux Falls yesterday and slowed down through a construction zone some crazy woman almost ran into the back of the Bonneville, and yeah, she was in an SUV and talking on her cell phone. It was close by the time she got on the brakes, probably a foot or so from my bumper when she got slowed down!!!!! Had she hit me, I had already decided while watching her approach in the mirror, that she would have a tough time getting her cell phone out to talk on it next time she drove!!!!!
heh heh, Naw, he was "seen" unloading on a side street a few blocks away by several local rodders. Seen him do it myself many times but I can care less about trophys. Later at the show he was bragging about driving 150 mi's w/o mentioning that little fact. The two guys who saw it put him on front street loud and clear at the awards gathering after he won. Far as I know he never attended that show again. Some Rodders who show, especially trophy chasers, will scream like old ladies when they lose out to what they perceive as an unfair advantage. My opinion -trailer anywhere out of state or a major points type car show, but if its to a semi local cruise type show drive it or stay home. IF you do trailer, don't be bragging about driving it when you did'nt. Understand MN does not have the congestion issues that many states do w a few exceptions (week day rush hour in or near MNPLS/St Paul and after BTT50's) and of course Deer. If thieves want your car bad enough they will take the whole trailer it is actually easier.Quote:

I've been trailering my Willys all summer due to the lagging DMV. Trailer to the meet, cruise around and trailer home. Did one 3 events on a Sat this summer. It will be mid Oct before I get the license and tiltle according to the DMV. I plan a 24 hour day of cruising when the title arrives. I may even sleep in the car. haha :LOL:
