The company Green Earth Technologies announced today it has been granted the American Petroleum Institute (API) symbol for its SAE 5W-30 weight of its new motor oil made from . . .cows! The company will roll out G-OIL 5W-30 in bulk and quart size bottles in the next few months.

Unlike traditional petrochemical-based motor oils from leading manufacturers, Green Earth Technologies' G-OIL is made from rendered cow fat. These saturated fats, whose molecular single-bond carbon chains are similar to common petroleum oils, have no harsh effects on the environment. When mixed with the product G-DISPOSOIL, used G-OIL is almost instantly broken down into smaller molecules that are food for microorganisms in soil, so the oil can be poured onto the ground with no harmful effects.

The company says that using cow fat for motor oil reduces America's dependence on foreign oil. "It takes three barrels of crude oil to make one barrel of motor oil, but it only takes one barrel of animal fat to produce one barrel of G-OIL," the company said in a press release.

The two-cycle version of the oil, used for lawnmowers and other small engines, has been on the market since July and is available at Home Depot.

Hmmmmmm. sounds interesting but I think I'll stick to Mobil 1!!

I don't know if this is serious or not, but at least two falacies in their story. The three barrels to one for crude based oil doesn't take into account the other products derived from the barrel/crude, it's possible with hydro cracking, reforming and other technologies to get more than three barrels of finished product form three barrels of certain crudes. Second is the "bio-degradable/enviro safe" thing. While their basic product might be renderable that way, they are not taking into account the by products of combustion plus metal sluffing that occurs in engine operation, those contaminants in the lube oil are not considered bio-safe. It's the same type of fallacy that occurs with so called bio-safe anti-freese.

I like the shell rotella ,usually regular oil will turn dark after just a few hour in a lawnmower ,this stuff holds it`s color much longer......:confused:

Must be less metal breaking down.....the stuff smells completely different than regular oil too?

That was a pretty good story about the new moooooobil oil.

I will have to look for it now just to see.:D

Cow Oil... Will it make my car smell like cheeseburgers the way an old Benz 300 smells like french fries when run on deep fryer oil?

uuuhhhhh methinks my Ford F350 and '31A will continue with Motorcraft semi syn or Mobil 1. My guess it that "cow oil" wont meet most auto mfrs warranty requirements.

Let's see out of that 3 barrels of oil, we get amongst many other items:
Gasoline
Motor oil
Diesel fuel
Heating oil
Asphalt
and - drum roll - plastics (remember all that Chinese junk in Wally World and the "dollar" stores, and those grocery store bags we all love:eek:)

I did see that, but not sure that I really believe it - especially the Ford spec which for whatever reason seems tougher then the other mfrs. To me, unless I really see test results is something like that warranty on a Slammer Chopper or a $10 tool guaranteed for life that is, three years later just send the tool plus $8 for return postage and the receipt to Kowloon, China for your replacement.
