the art of concealment

I'm looking for ideas here.

On a related thread, someone was asking for ideas for putting quick easy sound into their ride, and the suggestion of a boom box came up.

I've been going that route for near a year now, but I'm using an actual little boom box, and have to lock the car to keep the punks from swiping it.

Someone ( several someones ) mentioned making their own boom box with car stereo stuff, and plugging it into the cigarette lighter. I love the idea.

BUT.. how to make it look like some piece of something no one would want to steal?

I need an idea to enclose $200 car stereo stuff and be able to leave it on the seat, windows down, doors unlocked, and even a crackhead wouldn't think it was worth taking.

Disguise it as a baby seat.

Personally I'd buy a receiver that you mount behind dash with a cd changer port (later when money alows), IPOD port, and a good remote control. That way you can literally hide the receiver behind the dash with nothing exposed. Thats what I'm doing with my truck and my sons Elky. Myself I never use a cassette any more and the Ipod is awesome for storing the songs you like....or in my case....rather listen to just the radio anyway.

I met a guy a couple years ago with a 60's classic car. He had his radio disguised as a underdash A/C unit.....in the same fashion as what I said above. Really neat. But no air. :eek:

my dad used to play in a band in the 50s and i have his old guitar amp, he had a electric guitar in 1957-1958, it is leather covered and was a old tube unit with a 10 inch speaker, I always thought it would make a cool boom box of some kind as its small and had that worn look.

They make pull out systems and face plate removable systems. If your on a tight budget, try ebay for a used deck!

A old cardboard box over the top of it marked cleaning rags.,,,man ya know anything that even sounds like work they'll not take.:LOL:
