Can someone explain to me why we keep saying that those at the top "blew it" ? We all know that the average american wanted no part of the tiny econo box average auto! Give me a SUV was our chant! SUV's and the similar types were all the rage! Wasn't 'til gas got to 3 bucks a gallon - then 4 +.. then NOBODY wanted what was sittin' on the dealers lot! Same thing happened twice in the 70's! All of a sudden we got pintos and vegas all over again.

I don't think we shoulda bailed them out either. They should get themselves through the mess (if they can) and if they can pay out the big bonuses and keep afloat, then by gawd, do it!

I'm no expert in this stuff, but I've heard a few people in the industry claim building the same basic vehicle in different plants was the mistake. For instance, building a P.U. with the GM, GMC, and Cadillac name. It takes too much money and time to react to a changing market and/or economy.
Again, just what I've heard.
