The GAU-8/A seven-barrel Gatling gun found on the A10 Warthog is in fact a 30MM, not a 50 cal. The 50 cal round at .500 is less than half the size of the A10 Gatling guns 30MM which is 1.18110. Thought a plane guy like yourself would want to know that.

I don't know why I put 50cal, I must been thinking of other stuff when I wrote it! I know air planes, not an expert on all weapons, just know the ones I have, and not an expert on them! I have built many dummy scale guns and missiles (some that actually lanch) for planes I have built.
I'm more interested in the way the complete plane is designed, most of the left & right side parts are interchangable, the offset front gear(because of the cannon) makes tighter right hand turns then left hand, the fact that the plane was designed around the gatling cannon, which was orignally a 2 speed gun and then changed to a set speed , but takes a second to come up to speed. The way the wing is honey comb and skinned so that it can take hits and not fold a main spar as in basic aircraft, it has a tub around the 5' drum that holds 1,200 -1,500 shells to protect them from hits which would explode if hit. That it only flew just under 350 mph and as slow as 125mph. It's large tires so it could land & take off on rough ground, like the Jaguar, as most jets had weak landing gear, and it's ailerons were out and large for better & quicker control, the high ratio lift wings made it able to fly slower, unlike that of most jets that have a thin wing (low ratio) which needs speed to keep in the air and fly faster. And the shark teeth design they used on the A-10 were put on everything from cars to pistols.
No! I did not look up this stuff on the internet, I don't need to! ;) I read books on all the planes I build, I build them as close to scale as I can.

Wellll !!! I thought you were a plane guy and you do sound like you know what you are talking about. My comment was simply to be informative of a MISTAKE you made not to be a wise a*$. I was also fine with your post with you spouting off your complete know it all. And weather you looked it up on the net or read about it in some book doesnt make a lot of difference.
I also didn't look it up on the net, and didn't read about it in a book. I actually new that the A10 used a 30MM shell. Your post was fine until that last paragraph you could have keeped that to your self.
What did I say that's wrong? All I said was I read/buy a lot of books on each of the planes I build. I even used a smilling wink in it. ;)Quote:

Well it all depends, does someone want one to look like a particular type plane and fly well or does someone want it to be scale, and harder to fly? ( a thing called scale affects when you make it smaller then full size plane) I use to build non-scale planes for people and would average about $.15-.35 a hour! :eek: But I did it for kids and begginers ;) Most people don't like the true cost to build them! :eek: Just like a hotrod. It's cheaper to buy a built one, then have one built! :HMMM:
If it's a scale plane, I have find & read books with lots of pic's order a kit that is close to what I want, and customize it till it the true shape & size. Then I have to find out if they make the retrack landing gear, or do I need to buy a set and rebuild them to be right for the plane I'm building ,They don't make them for all planes. I paid $300.00 for the set for my F7F Tiger Cat. and thats only the gear it self, not the parts to make them work! I then have to mount motor and the servo's and radio stuff and make sure it all works smooth and the gear work right also, build the cockpit and instruments.
I build the planes out of Balsa wood, then glass over it with I/2 oz cloth and use epoxy, not poly(no stink **) :whacked: venting, or wax to remove if you can't get with out) then sand it smooth as a baby butt & straight! Then mount the engine cowl, and cut what ever holes it needs,then paint everything with auto paint, I don't use decals, I hand paint them on. then clear it with gloss or semi gloss, or flat, which ever it calls for, then set the center of gravity on the main spar (back a little for stunt forward a little for smooth flying)
I guess it's like asking you how long and how much to build your Camaro, before you started. :D You have built many, but not the Camaro yet.
A scale plane can take a easy 4-6 months (I don't work on them 24-7, only evenings & week-ends, just like a car. I work days to pay for them :3dSMILE: ), and a trainer can be built in 3 to7 days. I have built gliders in about 36 hrs
