Gonna sell my Ranger I think

took the Ranger to bennington vt on a day trip with my mom on friday.. ended up getting to the visitors center, getting some information, and went to the truck to find the starter fried... 5spd so we just pop started it and went to the advance auto down the road.. checked it over to find the power wire that runs inside the starter and goes to the solonoid, fried... contenplated putting in a new starter using borrowed tools from advance, ended up not doing that.. we decided we were arleady there, and were going to enjoy the trip.. so we parked where the truck could be pushed ( you get all kinds of funny looks from this ).. I put a starter in yesterday, no big deal. it's a pretty job on that truck..

anyway, working on my Chevy today, I realised I need somthing that can tow it, as it can't be driven everywhere.. so I'm going to sell the Ranger in the ballpark of $2,500 and get somthing with a 6,000# tow rating ( car+ trailer ).. somthing a bit older that's easier to work on would be nice

Good idea Matt! I have a Mercury Moutaineer (Ranger chassis) that can tow 5000 lbs without a distributing hitch and 7500 with one. We use it as a long distance driver and a tow car and been pleased with it. But it the next one will be either a full size crew cab pu or if you listen to my wife, a Suburban or Tahoe. Neither one is doable right now, so I guess the Mountaineer will have to keep up the work until that time.

I think my Ranger could tow 2,500# if it had a hitch. it says on the tag but I can't remember what it says exactly.. has factory trailer wiring ( ford stamp on the connector ) but it's never had a hitch on it, and the bumper cover is still un punched...

Explorer/ mountianeer 302/auto from a '98-2002 swap in the Rangers, but I'd have all kinds of issues.. PATS system, mines a manual trans and not an auto.. I thought about it, but it's just not worth it.. it is a nice truck, but.. even where I live RWD trucks usually don't cut it in the winter, so I'd have to get somthing for winter anyway.. so I'll be getting somthing that's also a 4x4

a 4.0L ranger with the tow package is rated for 6,000#.. if I got the explorer V8 and a 8.8" rear with 3.73's, it could do the 6,000# I'm sure, and be extremely quick too.. but, I'd rather have a '89-'96 F-150 or F-250.

Guys I have a question. I have a F-250 gas and would like to drop down to a Ranger for it's fuel efficiency. I only need to tow my 2-N Ford tractor some 15 miles ever 4 weeks between May and Oct.
Will I be able to find a Ranger with V6 and heavy enough suspension and auto tranny to do that?

Ranger with a 4.0L V6 and automatic is rated to tow 5,600# minimum, but 6,000# other times ( depends on toung weight and stuff ).. but consider, a 4.0L isn't the greatest on gas. 21-22 at the most, much less when towing...
