Let me also say this..... this move was is as much about getting more folks to visit the vendors as it is to get people at NSRA events.
As a vendor why would I want to pull a 18 wheeler half way across the country pay for hotels and meals for a crew of 4 or 5 just to get the product in front of 1000 or 1200 people. Sales have been down at most NSRA events as times get tougher and car counts are down.
Vendors keep the cost down for everyone at the gate and to enter your car, not to mention give aways and being able to see the latest products up close

Actually a good friend of mine who is an owner and promoter of two major shows in the mid Atlantic area, told me nearly two years ago that this would soon happen. Of course, I just looked at him cross eyed as usual. He said that Goodguys were for the most part continuing to increase it's sales and revenue and that the NSRA was seeing attendance drops and less revenue coming in and therefore, an opening of it's events to newer vehicles was going to happen.
I just never imagined that it would happen so soon and to all events. I also figured that some older, larger events would remain pre-49. As does happen occassionally, I figured wrong.Bob

i know the real cars from the 20s 30s. 40s and are getting harder to find. but i dont think its fair to not let a 51 chevy or sumn into a street rod event. when they will let a fiberglass rod in. it may looks 1930s or 1940s but it isnt. but then again of somebody is crawling in money a real car from that era should be obtainable.Last edited by 55ranchwagon; 04-24-2009 at 09:10 AM.

I still predict thay just shot themselves in the neck.
If the old guys (90% of NSRA membership & the ones with the cash to build a car) get pissed and sit out, the vendors will say it is not worth the hassle and cost to follow the NSRA circuit....
.....BOOM! There goes 75% of why I go to NSRA events: to look at nice cars and buy parts (podunct, KY doesn't have real street rod retail suppliers where you can go look at parts...at least that I am aware of).
One bad year may be the only chance they get. There are two things in life where penetration is really important.....and one of them is welding.

This thread has slowed down so I thought I would say a few words. My Wife and I were there the year of the flood; we were lucky our 40 Chevy Coupe was sitting on a high part of ground so the water was only as high as the running boards. We had a hard time getting out; I have never seen water build up so fast. The pre 80 to me is a large jump from pre 49 but it's not my call anyway. Over the years since I joined in 87 I thought a few years newer would be ok like mid 50's. I'm thinking about going and driving our 50 Ford Crestliner; since I don’t have a Street Rod at this time. It's been awhile since I've attended but I kept my membership up for most of the years since 87.
The drive to and from the show seeing so many cars driving from Hotel to Hotel checking out the cars and talking with people. Going to the restaurants seeing the parking lots full of Street Rods was just as good or almost as good as being at the fair grounds.
I would only hope it would be as enjoyable as in the past. We will have to see.

i didnt attend the show. but most guys i know said mostly street rods. 50s and 60s model cars. alot of 50s model wagons and trucks. from what i seen out and about near our fairgrounds. a decent amount of muscle cars and few few from the 70s.
we have a cruise after the show thats what i seen myself. 49-64 is what i mostly seen in cars and trucks.

I read with interest all the comments on the change NSRA implimented this year. Being an NSRA member for the past 31 years I too was interested how this would impact the first show of the season in Oklahoma City. I was plesently surprised to see many well built cars and trucks 1949 and newer. I never seen the predicted low rider, 20" wheel, booming stereo, hydralic equipped Monte Carlo. I actually enjoyed the verity of vehicles more than I thought I would. I own 2 street rods but still enjoy looking at something besides a red '32 Ford (which I've owned 2). Keep in mind the NSRA is a privately owned orginization and it is a "for profit" business. No profit, no business. In another 5 years most guys my age will probably be out of the picture, street rod wise so they are forced into changing with the times. At my age I'm glad to be able to go to the events and don't mind the younger rodders interest.

Louisville is where it is going to get ugly.
Louisville has hundreds of pre-1980 local cars on 24" wheels with loud stereos and gangster /gangster wannabe drivers.
Those are the ones that will ruin the fine event we all know and love. There are two things in life where penetration is really important.....and one of them is welding.

They are probably already waiting in line to get prime spots to show off their stuff.

Both sides are interesting.....in 1960, if they had the Nationals in Louisville, a 32 Ford would have only been 28 years old....could it have been entered? Would people have cared?

Welcome to CHR. I think that you need to hook up your vacuum advance. At part throttle when cruising you have less air and fuel in each cylinder, and the air-fuel mixture is not as densely packed...
