These cars are local to Louisville! Some are pre-80
Why wouldn't they go to a local car show?

So what if they did???? Think they'd take over or something??? Ya know, if people don't like those cars, they probably wouldn't bother looking at them if they were in the show..... I guess I still don't see why it matters what kind or years of cars are at a show....Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

I thought that rear engined dragsters should be banned from sanctioning body rules, because I did not like the change.
Today I see that we will need to turn our hobbies over to younger generations, and just be glad that someone will bring that same passion to it. I'm not thrilled by front wheel drive 4-cylinder cars, but I have to admit that running sevens with them is hard to ignore.
Truth is that the number of early car bodies will slowly diminish or get more expensive. Younger guys will build using what they find or afford, like we did. Eventually the newer bodies have to come in to appeal to the new arrivals.
For today, it will make the events bigger, and for people who appreciate more than one kind of car....like me....it just makes them more interesting.

Well, it would seem that once the new rules go into effect, you're probably going to have to find a different show to go to as I doubt NSRA will change on your behalf..... As for the thread on the Hamb.....who cares????
Change is inevetible in car shows just like change in anything else... I guess as participants we will learn to accept change, or become terribly miserable... Guess my choice will be to accept the change, and maybe even learn to enjoy the variety that the other years will offer. I don't have to like what other folks build, but at the same time I like to study the build and see what, if anything, could be applicable to what I build. I haven't bothered to attend an NSRA event in many years, but now that there will be a bigger variety of cars in attendance, I might give it a try..... I guess one man's loss can become another man's gain!!!!!Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Dave has brought up some good points. I am not a member of NSRA or Goodguys, but attend events of both. I will have to admit that Goodguys has a very nice show at Texas Motor Speedway each year that can hold it's own against the NSRA events in Oklahoma and Missouri. I am concerned with the survival of NSRA if they don't make some changes. And I think they must act soon. My concern is that this may be such a large change so much so thar NSRA will lose its identity and will become a "Goodguys II". Time will tell. And Dave would love the Texas Goodguys event. They always have some later model ( 60's & 70's) stuff that is just incredable!

I have attended the Richmond Nats the last three years because they are held very close to my home and I don't recall seeing many late models (post '49) but there were some so they must have allowed them. Being in high school in the '50s allows me to appreciate lead sleds of that era and later Chevies with Olds trim etc. Generally the cars at the Nationals are at a much higher level of quality than just at a "Mall Meet" so maybe it will not be much of a change. Maybe I have just not seen the more outrageous late models but it is the same old problem of availability of older iron in spite of the many 'glass replicas now available. Anyhow I go to see the '28-'40 models and subconsiously regard the later models as tow cars but there are some pretty neat "customs" which usually have upgraded engines. I am attaching a picture of a neat custom from last year which was moving when I took the picture so I did not get all of it, but that is a pretty nice ride in my book and it sounded like a V8.

i heard it was pre 70 but the judging would still be for the pre 49 rods. my encounters with street rod guys a good amount of them are pricks. here recently when the nsra show was here . my buddy has 57 ford 4dr he tried talking to some of the guys they where extremely rude. they say pre 49. but then again a fiberglass rod made six months ago will be allowed. i get sick of seeing all the same car. fibeglass billett mobiles. and at rockabilly themed carshows i am getting sick of flatblack cars with red wheels. i still think it looks good but it way overplayed. the nsrs show in okc two weeks ago was the lowest amount of rods in 23 years. we have a rockabilly themed carshow here every august the okie twistoff. the carshow is pre 65, but certain cars after 65 are allowed.
i have 68 dodge polara that would have been allowed to enter but i didnt though.
anymore i am happy to see any pre 80 car around. oldcars guy in my age group are a dieing breed. i am 25 the 16-25 age group are into imports aka ricemobiles. like dave said more a of a variety to look at not the same 28-34 fords.

The whole point is, there are car shows for the street machines. The 50's 60's 70, and 80's cars. NSRA was all about pre 48. For a reason. PRE 48 PERIOD THE END. Starting in 2010 they will be allowing 1980 Honda Accords in beside a 40 Ford. If you dont want to see pre 48 cars, dont go. But now that NSRA has caved in to the allmighty dollar, and sold out, they can do it without me.

Of course it's all about the money, I couldn't imagine the amount it takes to put on one of the big shows!!!!! Sounds like to me that the NSRA is doing what they have to do to have the funds available to put on a first rate show....
Ranchwagon brought up some good points, too... The "your post '48 car isn't a real car" crap gets a bit old, especially when the guy being the snob is driving a 'glass bodied 1-800-HOT-RODS special...
Around here, we're thrilled just to get cars at a show, nobody seems to care or notice what vintage they are....and we even manage to have a good time and occasionally those with open minds can even learn something new from one of those "other cars"!
There's enough outside sources trying to do what they can to put an end to a lot of Hot Rod activities, and Hot Rods in general. Don't really see where "specialized" shows and a bunch of snobbery towards one group or another will do any good for promoting Hot Rodding and showing it to the public as good clean fun for all ages, families always welcome!!!!
Being a Ford and Mopar guy for years, I've become quite accustomed to the "you ain't one of us and you ain't welcome" crap.... Acutally most of the time it becomes just downright funny.... Guess I just don't understand why peeps would be upset about the changes at NSRA....would they prefer to just keep things the way the are until it's no longer feasible to do it, then quit?????
One other consideration..... Maybe some of the new entrants at the NSRA shows have never had much exposure to street rods and maybe, just maybe they might decide to build one!!!! IMO, a more open minded approach would be beneficial to ALL ASPECTS of Hot Rodding then some kind of ridiculous discrimanation towards someone who's car isn't like yours??????Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Glad to hear that it's not just me that's been through the snobbery thing..... I don't understand it, and never have seen where it does anyone or any group any good.... Looks like NSRA has seen fit to include more years of cars so they can generate the necessary revenue to keep having shows.... None of these shows are cheap to put on, guess the choice is to include more years or quit....Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Welcome to CHR. I think that you need to hook up your vacuum advance. At part throttle when cruising you have less air and fuel in each cylinder, and the air-fuel mixture is not as densely packed...
