Man, that is cool. I bought a 79 XS750 Yamaha that runs for only $350 with new carb rebuild kits, extra wheels and tires, perfect shape that I am going to be riding this summer to save on gas. Should be a blast.

Ok, I'll tell my experience. I was out of work things were getting tight. My brother in-law said a lady needed someone to paint her house, inside, and trim outside. To this day I say that was the best time of my life, I was making $5.00 per hour, I would share my lunch with this very sweet older lady. When she passed away I was back to work at my regular job, her neighbor called to let me know, I had done some work for them also. My wife, daughter, and I went to the funeral. There were not enough people for paw bearers. One of her relatives asked if I would be one? I was honored she was quite a lady. People come into our lives for a reason, and if I think times are bad I think of the days that I would sit and share my lunch with her. Marie would say your wife is such a good cook. That's when I ate meat, ham, and cheese sandwich!! Thanks for the post you got me to think of Marie. At that time I wasn't worried about money because I didn't have any to worry about.
You will be ok you have the right outlook.

i just got laid off today alsso
Mr. Pro street..
No advice for ya, but I'll tell ya my story:
Got in some trouble in the civilian world. Had a couple days of TIME to really REALLY think about things. Decided to join the army. Best decision I ever made. Problem is, I didn't make much rank ( due to circumstances, not me ) so the army wasn't offering me much to stay in at my four year contract end. So I got out. Went to school with my army money, got a good job, and now 15 years later, my career is kind of free wheeling. You see, corprate no longer promotes from within the ranks. If you're not an ivy league know-nothing, you ain't gonna rise up. Besides, that, our corporations are going belly up in record numbers. It is plain alarming what is happening to our manufacturing. So, in the last 15 years, I have worked for no less than three corporations, and two of them twice! Layoffs really interrupt your career. Just started a new job ( as previously mentioned in this thread ) and have no retirement savings yet. The house and vehicles are paid, but that's about all I've accomplished.
Here is the kicker: Had I stayed in, I could be retiring THIS YEAR. Then I could find some job I really LIKED, which paid probably not well, and draw that retirement check, and double dip for the next ten or fifteen years, until I could draw social security.
Whatever you do, make sure it will work into your future plans.
If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.
I'll probably stay in. Its just I have sh!tty days and wanna get the hell out, but thats with every job though. Thanks for all your wisdom though.**)
I got laid off once and it was the best thing that has ever happened to me as far as my career is concerned. It changed my career direction and I havent looked back ever since.
real sorry to hear that gasser.
the army is lookin damn nice to me right now!! just need to lose some weight.
Yeah you cant go wrong with the military that's for sure. People say that there are no jobs out there... Of course there is, you can get one with the military any day. I think the media blows it out of proportion and it isn't as bad as most people may think it is. It's part of the cycle, in a few years everything will be back to normal and prices will be outragious again on everything (food, vehicles, stocks, etc etc).
that sux about your job. good luck with you new endeavors. i have been at my job 9 years the future for my company dont look to bright
Not many other people think their jobs future is too bright either haha.
