Got the 51 home.....

Almost didnt buy it....She was a little rougher than the seller described. Had a little more bondo in the quarters then he said. But he threw in a new pair of rockers and I figured, where can you buy a driveable decent hot rod for under three grand!!...:o Took it for a ride after we got home and had a ball! Gotta get rid of the fake white walls though....they're flopin in the breeze!:LOL:

Almost forgot.....The visor blew off on the ride home, but my girlfriend saw it coming off and I got stopped before it flew into traffic! No damage, but havent had time to reinstall properly yet. :rolleyes:

does that '51 have the rain gutters? my visor attaches to the rain gutters with 3 screws, and a mount in the middle.. the middle mount was lost in shipping so I had to fabricate a new 1, which was no problem

Looks great. Everytime I see portowalls for sale at some swapmeet I remember what a pain they were.............you would be going down the highway and all of a sudden a big chunk would whizz past you. :eek: It was even hard to get them positioned under the rim to get them uniformly round.

Right now, Im just enjoying the hell out of it!!:LOL: I got it registered yesterday and we took it for a nice ride to the store. I couldnt believe how people would stop and point or give a thumbs up as we went by! Im just gonna keep it as a beater for now while I work on my T. But will do small things to it like install the carpet and some windshield wipers!......:) Leaning toward maybe the gasser look later on.....

Like I said before, that's one damn fine looking ride. Go drive it and have fun. Port-o-walls? Had them on my 56 Ford in 1962 for about a week. They were a bitch to get set right. I think I kept them for about a month and then trashed them.

Sounds like you did ok, I can't imagine that car not going over $3000 being a hard top, 350 engine, trans, sub frame. Just my thoughts, if you could get the fenders back right with a set of skirts the car would be worth three or four times what you paid for it.

Like you said you just want to have some fun for now. Looks good to me.

I had a set of the skinny port-o-walls on a 53 Chevy when I was in the Army early 60's, it looked good when it was sitting still.

Damn....and I just order a new set of portawalls on ebay!!....:(..I never used them before and the tires are like new, so I figured what the heck, Id stick a new set on till I get new tires from Corker....It just wont look right without the whitewalls!...:)
