The exuberance of youth....

Photo 1. Scotty Thom's '56. I scalloped it at the paint and body shop I worked at part time. Check the full Moons. Reet.
Photo 2. First car, '47 Dodge. Me with the ever-present smoke in my hand. Check the kewl pin-striping by yours truly.
Photo 3. Don Spencer and me with Don's '49 Ford. We're holding my two Chihuahuas, Bobo and Toro. Check the blue-dot tail lights.
Photo 4. Dad's '57 Golden Hawk. I learned to drive in this car and got my first ticket in it (drag racing).
Photo 5. Me, Lanny Davis and Ken Thomas (NTFDAY) with my '59 Lark. 259 V8, 4-bbl, 3-speed with Hurst floor shifter, duals with cut-outs, Traction Masters, Bucron cheater slicks. I surprised more than one '55-'57 Chevy with this car.

Ah, memories. The 56 Chevy would be just as cool today as it was then and definitely "Old School" and if the 47 Dodge was still around it would have plenty of stories to tell. And I bet most of you thought that "teching" was the thing Tech did best. ;):D

This '48 Tudor was in between the Dodge and the Lark. Drove this one junior and senior year at High School.....'51 Mercury 255 cubic inch flathead, duals, WCFB 4-bbl on aluminum intake. 5.60/15's up front, 8.20/15's out back. The steel wheels were red of course.

it`s great that some of you guys have pictures of days gone by .. `id kill for some .. i have nuthin of me or any friends .. probably a good thing though .. we`d all be with 70`s afro hair and plaid bell bottom polyester pants :HMMM:

2262 N. Gettysburg Ave, just north of Kings Highway. I understand it's very.......ummmmm.......dark in that area now.....and dangerous. :eek:
One of my dearest friends from that era lives in Huber Heights.

I think the trailer park is still there and I doubt any of the neat old trailers would still be there and yes that area is very rough,its hard to believe but there are still a few of the white folk that live around there. I need to go in that area to find a lawn mower junkyard and will look up the trailer court to see if any of those old trailers still exists.

I grew up around that area also. Was the trailer park close to the old Nickley IGA?, A buddys mom owned the Bar across the street. Remember the Bargain Barn?

If you're talking about the store that was basically on the corner of Gettysburg and Prescott, then the answer is yes. Tech and I graduated from Fairview in '61. He lived in the Gettysburg park and I in Kings Highway.

I remember a Bargain Barn, but the one I remember was on the circle on N. Dixie Highway. It was a circular highway interchange like they use in Europe and the Bargain Barn was on the north side of it. Might still be there for all I know.

That bar across the street was probably the one where my dad frittered away all his money. I remember it was just north of the trailer park on the west side of Gettysburg Ave.

I don't know if you're talking about going INTO the park or not, but if you do, turn left (north) as you go in. The road will deadend and go to the right only (east). In the middle of the park is a road going north and south. That road is the middle point of the park. Two spaces east of that north-south road on the left is where we lived. From the advice of Don Spencer when I went back for a visit in '95 though, I wouldn't go in there without packin' an Uzi and being backed up by the A Team.

I'll dig back through the archives and see what I have Don. I was too stupid to take a camera with me to the drags in those days. Would love to have a photo of NTFDAY flagging off Dick Vest's front motor digger.
