title question.

I would like to know how or what a person does to get a legal title
when the people lose or don't have a title for a car, reason is that
I am looking a couple of(fixer uppers) cars, but being sold with bill of sale only..here where I live if I lose a title to one of my cars I get a dublicate,
this cars are in Co. and I know there are guys here from Co. do do know if
you guy s have the same system,or what do I have to do ?? please if it's
something that can not be talked about here for I know we have rules,
you can PM or email me , I am trying to do this the right way(legal way), not some shady way.. thanks ....

From CO but always had clear title on all vehicles bought and sold...

A few years back I bougfht a derelict "65 Corvair Corsa that had been sitting out behind a service station in Oakton, Virginia. No title, no old plates, no documentation of any kind.

After a lot of tinkering and parts replacement I towed it to Texas.

Like you, I was pretty much at a loss as to what had to be done to get it titled. I asked a few of my grease-monkey buddies what I should do (either legal or not so legal) to get some presentable papers on the car. I got lots of "advice" but I didn't have guts enough to try most of it.

Finally, with fear and trembling , I went to the Texas Dept. of Motor Vehicles in Fort Worth expecting to be run off or maybe even have the car seized, but it turned out to be a pretty painless process. A very nice lady had me fill out a stack of papers explaining how, when, where, and from whom I got the car. Also, all the numbers, etc. and other information I could find on the car itself.

Maybe three or four weeks later the DMV called me and told me the reports were in and there were no "wanteds" or liens or claims of any sort found, and the car was mine and a new title in my name would be issued.

You might try going this route. It worked for me!

I have used Broadway Title. http://www.broadwaytitle.com/ Doesn't matter where the car is from just where you need to title it.
Check them out all you need is the VIN and $150.

If you know about "hoops'" you can start practicing jumping, higher the better. Learn how to say 'yes sir, no sir (m'am) and don't add anything...in other words, keep your mouth shut around the inspector. Leave the BS at home. Smile all the time like you are really enjoying this.
