Thread Closure

Saw a thread titled "The nerve of this guy!!! Can you believe it??" that after only 7 comments was "CLOSED". I read all of the comments and found none to be particularly offensive. So why was it closed early?? If a comment was deleted for being too offensive, then why was the discussion closed after the offensive posting deleted? If you're going to close a thread why not just leave the offensive posting in (modified if necessary) so readers know what the problem was that caused closure?

Are we becoming paranoid or afraid of being sued by people who's nationality matches the group referred to in the thread or in the item of interest? Or are our Moderators attempting to be pre-emptive after looking into their crystal ball? Or are we just becoming wusses.

In any case right or wrong, it's censorship. We as adults should be able to made educated decisions on the value of the content.

So what was the reason for closure?

If my questioning of this issue causes someone to have gas, please advise me in a PM so that I will refrain from questioning the authorities in the future.

That bothers me too Bob. While I know we have some rules that prohibit certain discussions, lets face it, we talk about a lot of subjects on here that are non car related. We poke fun at each other, we cuss a little (with restraint), we tell jokes, we cry on each others shoulders when things go wrong, etc. That thread was very tame. It may have discussed a certain Nationality, but that was the smallest part of that discussion. Rather it was centered around how bass-ackwards a lot of our court cases and decisions have become.

While I think our Mods do a great job, and one that is for the most part thankless and time consuming, sometimes we pull the trigger way too fast IMO.

I'm in agreement Don. If we can't express our opinions on the Forum what are we to do,read and leave be.
This was an article that was published in the Washington Post and an opinion on that article is just expressing free speech.

We here in Texas are sitting on a powder keg and the illegal entry at the border is a real problem.

Thank God Bush corrected a similar injustice before he left office.

If we lose our free speech and opinions we are on a path of destruction.

I say wake up America.

CHR is politically neutral, as such whenever a thread such as the one that was closed (and soon this one at the way it will soon turn from the two posts above) pops up, it gets shut down or removed in a wholesale fashion. It's been pointed out numerous times that political threads create a negative atmosphere and hurt feelings as people take sides. As such, since this is a web site dedicated to automobiles and not politics, we will not allow threads with even a hint of a political tone to proceed.

Sorry if you disagree with this, but I do hope in the same breath that you understand and will abide by the rules of this web forum.

Thanks Mr. Mustang! If the guys can't get enough politics here, they can always turn on cable news and listen 24-7 to "experts" debating the issues. I have on occasion thrown a joke or two about things, but will respect your effort from now on. I also want this to be a place to talk about cars.

As a fellow forum moderator and owner, you of all people should know that rules are put in place for a reason. In this case, the rules were put into place because of previous threads in this forums infancy that bent noses out of place. Everyone has strong political views and we respect that, in return we expect that the members here respect the rules that are in place here.

I don't know about other people, but i don't come here to listen to somebody's marriage problems....all of the things he is unhappy about....or someone tell us how we should behave, what to believe, how to vote, or what we should believe about God. This is the same reason I don't watch daytime dramas. :-)

I come here to look at people's projects, coverage of car events, advise about "automotive things", and things people have discovered concerning....you guessed it....cars. If I want to hear more about politics, social issues, or the things people do to each other, I'll turn on the TV.

i suppose that comment is directed to my thread .. since it is the second biggest thread in the lounge i kinda thought it was doing ok ,, a successfull thread has a 10 to 1 post to view ratio .. random stuff is running over 40 to 1 .. :p.. there is life beyond cars .. even on a car site ..

Well now I am confused and a little more miffed. :(

I really can appreciate the moderators issues with political brouhaha posts especially ones that end up going well off of the tangent or causing personl indigestion to be but into words. [Perhaps there should be a forum for polictical issues, but with rules about harshness, libel and slander. A forum that can be closed upon the first glimpse of abuse. That way the stuff stays out of the hotrod material.]

But my problem is that I don't recall that the original thread contained any political content. It was about property rights and a misguided court decision. Whether the violators were Mexican, Cubans, Costa Ricans, Chinese, Mongolians or even Venusians doesn't really have much to do with the primary issue.

When I went back to re-read the short thread, it was gone.:eek: WTF! Almost like it never happened.

Now we all look like idiots because we are discussing something that doesn't exist. A mind is a terrible thing to waste, so I would appreciate not having to survive mind games here.:D

Hotrodpaint - while I have a great appreciation for you and your contributions to this site from which even I have benefited, my only question is that if you find that people on the HAMB criticize and whine too much why are you a member there? Obviously there must be something gratifying about the place.:D

Well, guess I have gone too far once again. Hopefully not to be outcasted to the tar pits. Didn't mean to offend, just wanted to do a wisdom check.

You are not offending, just bringing something to this automotive forum that does not belong, that is all. You have to remember, young people (children as young as 8 years old) who do searches for their dream cars (remember way back when, I used to dig through magazines looking for all of the really cool automotive ads and stuff, now they have the internet) end up on this forum, as such, we attempt to do our best at keeping things below an R ratings.

You know, of course your house your rules. just thought I'd give my opinion.

First, I am a member of another board that has 99.9% no censorship. politics stays in a politics section. some members end up spending all their time there, some, like me, only very seldom ever end up there.

Why allow politics on non-political (in the main) forums? simple, I hang out with people that for the most part share interests with me. I like to talk to people similar to myself about things.

I like guns, i don't want to talk about hunting, preservation and gun control laws on a PETA forum, I want to talk about those things with other guys that like guns. I want to see what they think.

anyways, my 2cents.

Well, this thread has reached it's zenith, people who have posted have made their opinion known, as expected, some have used it for other reasons then stating their opinion. The bottom line is, when you sign up for an account on a forum, you agree to abide by that particular forums rules, on this forum one of them is no politics. If you want to talk politics, see my post two above this one for a link to the perfect forum to do so.
