Christmas tree up and stubbed toes

Got the Christmas tree up in the living room and like usual , furniture got moved around to make room for it. Now comes the dangerous part, navigating through the living room at night without having to use my Aflac policy.

I also got reminded again this year why your supposed to wear shoes when decorating the tree, those pointy snow flakes hurt

Around our place the Friday after Thanksgiving is "transformation Friday" - the day the house is transformed from "normal" to "Christmas" by bringing 23+ boxes of decorations down from the attic and decorating every room in the house Woke up a little after midnight, got out of bed and went hunting the ibuprofen!! Felt like I had been beat with a stick Looks nice, tho....

We started hanging white lights on the front of the house. Ace is selling long life, low energy LED strings for 9.99 a strand. Looked at them in the dark last night and was suprized how bright and anemic they look! Sort of a pasty flourescent white. I think we will use the old lights and put these guys on a tree for decoration. Each year we end up buying new strands as it is impossible to find which bulb went out that takes out whole strand. I wish we still had the old screw in bulb strands. They look the best and are easily fixed!
Maybe we will mix and match!

The ol' lady puts up the tree Nov 1. Irritates the hell out of me, but what can I do.
It is just a 3' fiber optic Wal Mart special, but I really like it and it suits us fine. No stringing lights! Just pull it out of the box, straighten the branches, and put the angel top. done.

I got two strands outside that haven't worked for about two years. Maybe this year I'll fix them. ( I just leave them in place ).

Also, got some 'icicle' lights which we hang in the living room windows. I just put screw hooks in for hanging them. Actually took them down the first year, but now just leave them in place too. Two of those are also not working.

I think there is no easy way to fix them, short of pulling each bulb and checking it. Make no assumptions, you could have more than one bad bulb. Also, some strands have little fuses in the plug. Check those too.

Personally, I like the ones which a single bulb won't shut down the whole strand a lot better!

OH, and isn't it irritating: you can get a whole string for about the same price as a pack of replacement bulbs!

Two years ago a friend turned me on to the LightKeeper Pro - an electronic repair tool for mini-light sets. Battery operated it checks for power along the string (blown fuse/bad bulb), has a single bulb & fuse tester, and best of all makes "repairs" to the shunt resistors in the base of the lights to light the string and show you the bad bulbs. Easy to use, good instructions. found a new "Where to Buy" page from their main site. I got mine at Lowe's for less than $20 - one of the best buys I ever made. I generally buy the strings I need plus one, and use that "extra" as a source of replacement bulbs so the sockets match, etc. Here's the link:

I'm in the process of doing our decorations now(coffee break time) - we ended up with an artificial tree a couple of years ago when my wife developed an allergy to the pine pollen, but it is a really nice. The lights go in the windows today the Dicken's Village gets assembled and the house exterior lights and yard stuff go on tomorrow. Since we will be having our England living children and grand children (they are moving back - to San Antonio)here on the 21st, much of the tree decorations will wait for their arrival as the kiods are 6 and 4. Most of the rest of the children/grand children will appear at various times between Xmas and New Years

I do have to say that if those bottles are full, when's the party
