Cell Phones - I need to rant

Bad day!!! Went out today to do some errands. (1) Woman - 3 small kids in the car - pulls out with her econobox directly in front of my 7400 pound F350 4x4. Blow the horn, get flipped off. Imagine that truck plowing into that thin skinned itty bitty car and the results. (2) Went to Wally World. Woman in the same aisle shouting - I figure I've again offended someone, but no. She has one of those things hanging out of her ear and figures volume is necessary - hell, she didn't need a phone to be heard by the talkee. (3) Went to the grocery store - woman standing in the middle of an aisle, totally blocking it - said excuse me, got a nasty look like I was trespassing on her turf and barely moved - and I still ended up sideswiping her cart. (4) Woman - texting in car next to me at a traffic light. It turned green, I went through, guy in back of her leaned on his horn to bring her back to reality.

What does this say about women and cell phones - yes, ladies, I know, there are some guys that are addicted as well, but not nearly so bad

And this doesn't even count the ding a lings talking while driving and reading something that I saw this morning - and I was only out ~two hours.

I keep praying that sunspots, a hurricane, sanity,or even something like a flock of sand fleas will attack these people and give me back a world without that cell phone/Blackberry/iPhone, etc. blight on mankind.

Phew - now, off to work on finishing up the wiring on my car. Sorry, but I just had to say it

I concur... Ought to be against the law to be talking on one when driving and people are just plain stupid about when and where they use them otherwise. Maybe I'm supposed to be impressed with how important someone seems to think they are when they are in a store or restaurant and talking on the dang things???? I don't have one, don't want one. For the most part, seems to be little more then one of those "hey look at me" deals. I do have one of those Trac Phone things, it goes in the glove box when I'm travelling to be used for an emergency... But it's not on and I haven't ever even given anyone the number to it....

Dave S, The worst part about my rant - those @#$% ARE illegal to use handheld in NY while driving. And the police DO pick people up, for what little good it does. $50 for the first offense up to $300 plus license points each time. We have one - wherever it is - and it gets used about a dozen times a year, and that's usually only when one of us is out of town and want to 'report' safe arrival.

Where I work, Maryland, women don't need cell phones to accomplish the same as you witnessed. It's a women thing, cell phones are just one of their crutches.

I totally agree that cell phones are a distraction when doing anything involving machinery or kids. Should be outlawed. Unlikely to happen here in my lifetime.

I never owned or wanted one until I was 60 years old, and the only reason I got one then was my Ex-Wife bought me one for Xmas. I'm like you, I hate the darned things.........well, not the cell phone itself, but the inconsiderate people who use them.

One time I took my Ex-GF out for a romantic dinner to St Armans Circle in Sarasota. We got the second story balcony (there are only two tables out there) and in the middle of a nice, quiet dinner some clown comes out and stands 3 feet from us and starts a loud conversation on his phone. Finally, I said "Dude!! We're trying to have dinner out here, would you mind!!" He looks at me like I'm the crazy one but did move back inside. I see it all the time where people standing in line next to you are carrying on a conversation at the top of their lungs as if no one around them matters.

And as for people driving with one arm glued to their head, don't even get me started.

I lost an employee this week-he had a few drinks (last Saturday night), and was talking on his Cell and veered right into a big Boulder along the Highway-sad, really, he was a good guy (luckily not married) and it was a single car accident.

Distracted driving is distracted driving-I lost a neighbor a few Years ago who was changing a CD in his Stereo. I agree that Cells are problem, however-I personally know that I have been talking to someone while driiving (I try not to do it anymore (I pull over now), but Business is business), and when I get done I realize that I don't remember where I've been-
Have you ever noticed that anybody driving slower than you is an idiot, and anyone going faster than you is a maniac?

I would venture to guess cell phone drivers are killing more people on the road than drunks. It's everywhere and scary is the little girls and boys who barely know how to drive anyway and they are texting while driving.
On top of the whole safety issue is just plain bad manners. I have friends, relatives who I get in to go somewhere with or go to their house for coffee and they yap to someone else for an hour while you set there like a big dork. The things are a frickin social blight.

You might be right. About 3 years ago, a female driver in a SUV was blabbing on her cell phone while speeding down a busy highway at about 90 mph. She clipped a van going the same way causing the van to flip. Three adults and 5 children were killed. Only one child, a girl age 8 survived. Turned out this was the speeder's second arrest within a month doing the same crap. This time she got prison, but only about 5 years. 5 years for the death of 8 people. I thought she should have gotten life, without parole.

People who drive reckously at any speed shouldn't be on the roads. But combine that with a cell phone, and they should be confined in either a mental hospital or a prison.

I for one hate cell phones. got rid of mine 2 years ago. I go for a drive to enjoy the car, music and solitude. How could i with that thing going off. i broke mine in half and canceled the contract. only phone i have now is a soft phone through my pc. Hubby has to have a cell because of the work he does. When the family is out and about we leave it home. If it is that damn important than we will hear about it when we get home. My best friend has one that is on constantly. when she comes by to see me I tell her I will talk to her when she cuts the thing off.

They do have their uses, She Who Must Be Obeyed has one, next weekend we're going to a swapmeet (Palmerston North Swapmeet, held at Feilding. Go figure.) a mate has asked me to take some rims down to give to a mate of his whom I have never met.
When we get there we can ring him and arrange to rendezvous, much easier than going around belowing "Fish! Fish!", ('cos that's what he's called,) "Where are ya!"
I reckon someone would come and take me somewhere where the walls are nice and soft and you eat your food with your fingers.
She bought one for me three or four years back.....but I've never used it....on the occasions I've wanted one I can use She's.

In my opening statement I forgot to include those @#$% cell phones with a @#$%^ intercom. That with their stupid ding-a-ling, fingernails on a blackboard sound. Yes, they are handy, but when I can see BOTH parties, stupid!!!!!

(the wiring mentioned in the first post on 11 July - still going on. I too have a 'she who must be obeyed' )
