:whacked:
Boy, did I get in the wrong thread or what. I just came in here to read what people were saying about gas and find a discussion about women's lack of abilities or whatever. Since I am new here and am not interested in getting raved at, I will limit my post to the price of gas. It costs to much.
Ron :)
Nooooo ..... Ron! Don't let us give you the wrong idea! You won't get raved at.Quote:

No Ron, you won't get raved at. I'm done on this thread, but it was fun while it lasted. Thank you to the moderators who allowed me the freedom and the webspace to argue my points and my apologies to hotroddaddy for hijacking his thread.Quote:

Apology accepted and my apologies to you, ford2custom and stovens if I hurt any of you in any way. You just happened to be in my line of fire when I was "up on the tire". That's an old drag racing term.Quote:

It pleases me that you look at it in that light. Thanks Jerry. :DQuote:

No need to apologize Richard, these threads are for open discussion! If it gets off track, that`s cool with me, i personally like when things take a turn, it allows us to talk about other subjects besides cars! Plus it lets us all know each other a little better, it would sure suck too finally meet some of you and find out that we really could not get along.
Richard I appologize to you too. And your right, without spell check, I appear to be uneducated, I guess all that college wears off when your passionately stating your opinion.Quote:

Damn!, with all of these apologies I feel like I need to so also. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) I have nothing for which to apologize.:D
Being a long time member of the SAR, I can appreciate and understand many of the things Tech has said and many of his beliefs, even though some may be deemed antiquated by current standards. I can also understand and appreciate the positions of others here. And I whole heartedly agree that each and everyone of us has a right to an opinion and the freedom to express it by the written or spoken word. Many good people have died to give us that right amd many more to protect it.:(
That being said, I now wish to switch gears and repeat those otherwise famous words......."Ladies and Gentlemen, start your engines"!!!! It's time to get back on track and talk hotrod stuff.
I sure am sorry I had to work today as this has been a very lively discussion to say the least.
FWIW, I've known Tech for 50 years and his opinions were not formed overnight and are concise and to the point and I applaud him for bringing to light what has been in the dark for way too long.
AWWW yes....Just like we like it up here at the top, they talk about it over coffe for a while ,untill emotions get heated or it becomes "too much "to understand ,then they go back thier normal routine and everything stays the same.............................its soo easy to keep em in thier place ,hell, they do it for us,its like they wanna get back to being in the dark where they like it.

Unless you are one of the ones who still believe all of those gatlin gun bullets helped the indians and it wasnt actually genocide.......
Glad you guys could see this thread for what it is (and is not) and have now buried the hatchet (and not in anyones foot I might add). Being in the lounge does leave me a little bit more leeway as to what stays and what does not. As for Freedom of speech, yes we applaud it, but at the same time realize that certain lines when crossed must be dealt with in a less than idealistic manner for some of your tastes ;)

Now, back to the question at hand. Why are gas prices exorbitant today.
If you'll go back to posts 17 and 18 and really, really read the content contributed by Big Tracks and written by Ed Wallace, it'll all fall into place for you. It's not a supply problem. It's not a refining problem. It's not a point-of-purchase retail problem. It's a problem with our duly elected officials. The people we hire to look after us. Problem is, they're not looking after us, they're looking after big money and lining their pockets with the results.
Here's the gist of the problem in one paragraph:
"It was called H.R. 5660, the Commodities Futures Modernization Act of 2000. At first this bill went nowhere in the House, not even up for debate. Then, a few months later, late one night a 242-page bill written by Wall Street lawyers, with the exact same name as the former House bill, was quietly added to an 11,000-page appropriations bill, and the Enron loophole was created. The power behind that bill was one Texas Senator, one Texas Congressman and their wives."
And yes, I'm ashamed to say that apparently Republicans were behind it. I don't know if we can even fault all the legislators who voted for it. They may not have even known it was riding on the butt-end of the original legislation. How do you sit down and read 11,000 pages of a bill so that you can make an intelligent decision about how to vote for it, even if you cared what was in it? More of the problem, I don't think our representatives cared what was in it. Just more of the same "Go along to get along" way of doing business in Washington.
Anyway, I'm pretty much convinced that we have identified the problem as being caused by futures speculators who are allowed to drive up the price of crude because they are out of the jurisdiction of the SEC. Anyone have any remedies for this? How do we get this legislation killed?
Want to lower gas prices? Then get this bill rescinded and get these futures speculators back under the control of the SEC. Sounds simple, but how will it be accomplished?
I want you to get mad. I want you to go to the window and yell....I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take this anymore. :3dSMILE:
I was quite angry and getting ready to jump on my 1 senator[ hillary is the other]and then a press release came out from my rep in the House calling for action to cut consumption, encourage alternatives to oil based products and rein in the price gougers and speculators who drive up prices. he also states that there is congressional action setting a cap at 2.59 a gallon. This news did cheer me up a bit. Hank
I've been saying for the last month or so that speculators are the primary cause of high gas prices and I wasn't aware that Congress can reign them in. If enough people are informed of the situation maybe Congress will get off their duffs and remedy the problem.
I will post it again....you better take a reak good look at her face and pay very close attention to the words that are not used and the overall tone of the event......
Let the reality of it sink in........she is publicly announcing that if she tells the people whats going on she is fired.specifically about the dollar being almost worthless....
OIL is no more exspensive than it was ...other countries have not increased thier gas prices in pennies....
THE DOLLAR IS WORTH LESS THAN 50 CENTS .......THIS IS THE REASON GAS IS ALMOST DOUBLE........
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_MugH...eature=related
This lady is suppose to tell us whats happening and she is under a gag order not to tell us.......do you people even concieve what that means ........she has publicly announced we are being kept in the dark and even worse they are admitting it......throwing it your face and saying there is nothing you can do about ,I am not going to tell you anything that is actually relevant and I am under orders to not tell you ,as a matter of fact she will get fired from her job ,if she does it...................................THINK about it ....she will be fired for telling us anything that is really happening...do not talk about the worthless dollar to the people or your fired.........you think this is the only person that has a gag order......or thats the only thing they gaged ordered about...........
Better listen to Richard ,its over ,has been over and we all well into the backside decline of it being over ,the officials are being told not to tell us its over or be fired................This way of life is about to cease.............But they have a solution .....The north Amercan free trade act......or more specific ,the uniting of Canada ,Mexico,America into one country named, they already have the name ..NAU...North American Union..............
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I7Oh_...eature=related
These are direct quotes from the horses mouth.............about you and me being sheep and its better for them to lead us where they want than for us to have a choice.....I have also seen the quote many times thanking the media for not covering any of thier events as to allow them to work under the cover of darkness.....
That second youtube video says "No longer available". I wonder why?
Shawnlee, I must commend you on your open-mindedness. You are the sole voice crying out in a sea of ignorance. I applaud you Sir. I don't know what age you are, but you are most certainly wise far beyond your years.
I think you may be jumping too quickly gloom and doom conclusions. Not that I don't agree there needs to be some changes, and not that I don't believe we elect crooks to watch over us in DC. But when I look at from this standpoint it is not that bad yet.

Time will tell. In any case I certainly disagree that the dollar "is worth less than 50 cents." Sorry, it's simply a lot more complicated than that.

My posting was the article in it's entirety.
Most of those nitwits in Washington are loudly blaming the oil companies for gas prices because of their high profits.
Well ...... THEY'RE THROWING ROCKS AT THE WRONG DOG, DAMN IT!
God bless you, Ed Wallace. You're telling 'em!
In addition to the announcement by the lovely Maxine Waters ("I will socialize ... uh ... nationalize ... the oil companies.... Turn them over to the government'"). Before that, the wicked witch of the West (referring to the 38 billion profit Exxon/Mobil reported) said "AS PRESIDENT, I WILL TAKE THAT 38 BILLION DOLLARS AND PUT IT INTO ALTERNATE FUEL RESEARCH."
So she's going to seize lawful profits made by a private company and use them as she chooses? I wouldn't put it past her to try.
I wrote to Michael Burgess (my congressman and one of the good guys) and enclosed Wallace's article. He may well have seen it already. Surely there are at least a few people in Washington who have the b-b-b ....guts to raise a stink about crooked speculators and the fact that they are dragging the economy down the sooey-hole.

A bit of information about Mr. Wallace -
Ed Wallace Deflates the Hype on Oil and Gas
Business Wire, April 28, 2008

Award-Winning Commentator's BusinessWeek Columns on Energy Challenge Conventional Wisdom by Washington and the Mainstream Media, Attract Widespread Readership
DALLAS -- Groundbreaking reporting on energy by Ed Wallace, an award-winning business journalist and broadcaster in Dallas-Fort Worth, has thrust Wallace into the forefront of the national discussion over oil supplies and skyrocketing gasoline prices.
In two April columns for BusinessWeek magazine*, Wallace was the first to challenge Washington and the media's contention that prices for gasoline and crude oil are rising because of a decline in global inventories and stronger demand.
In reality, Wallace reported, speculators have largely driven the price for oil on the futures market to record levels. In addition, he wrote, demand for oil and gasoline is actually falling, and on April 1, U.S. gasoline reserves are at their highest levels since late 1992--all during a time when refinery production had been intentionally cut to force up the price of gasoline.
In a related story published in the British Telegraph on April 24, Lehman Brothers affirmed Wallace's analysis, stating that energy supply is outpacing demand growth as the world economy cools.
Wallace's BusinessWeek columns, which appeared on April 1 and April 23, struck an immediate chord with readers. The first article drew more than 430,000 page views and more than 800 comments, staying among the Top Five most-read articles for almost three weeks.
The analyst and broadcaster's conclusion that oil and gas prices are being driven by speculation--not market fundamentals--isn't the first where Wallace has challenged the conventional wisdom on energy or automotive issues. In another BusinessWeek article in April 2006, he sharply criticized corn-derived ethanol as a gasoline substitute, calling ethanol an economic boondoggle that would lead to higher food prices and deteriorating air quality. The ethanol article was the most e-mailed story worldwide in the weekend after it was published.
Wallace has gained a reputation in the automotive and energy industries for taking controversial stands which prove to be true over time. In the 1990s he wrote other groundbreaking stories on energy and transportation issues for media outlets. Among them was a 1993 article about the harmful effects on the environment of MTBE, the controversial gasoline additive. Wallace was responsible for finding the flaws in the federal government database on the Ford Firestone issue - reporting which later drew praise from Tire Review magazine.
More recently, Wallace was honored after speaking at the Scona 53 conference on energy at Texas A&M University in February. Appearing with a number of experts including Azerbaijan Ambassador Yashar Aliyev, former Virginia Sen. George Allen, and ExxonMobil Senior Vice President Mark Albers, Wallace was given the Olin Teague Award for the conference's best presentation.
A disciple of the pioneering writer and business consultant Peter Drucker, Wallace approaches his work single-mindedly. "I try to find the obscure and overlooked story that denotes a permanent change in an economic or business paradigm," he says, "and then draw out its impact to a logical conclusion."
Based in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, Wallace holds a Gerald R. Loeb Award for exceptional business journalism from the Anderson School of Business at UCLA. His column heads the Sunday Drive section in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, and he is a member of the American Historical Society. The automotive expert for KDFW Fox4 in Dallas, Wallace also hosts the top-rated talk show, Wheels, for 570 KLIF-AM in Dallas-Fort Worth, and has one of the most viewed web sites (www.insideautomotive.com) for information and breaking news in the automotive industry.

OK all you non-commital, know-nothing, can't-see-past-your-noses peckerheads out there......here's your chance to get up off your hindside and do something constructive. I can't believe there were only 3 people brave enough to jump up on my chest during my tirade.....but anyway, here's your chance......email your congressman and demand they and their colleagues rescind H.R. 5660, the Commodities Futures Modernization Act of 2000.

I'll even help you with the verbage:
The Honorable ______ _________
My family and I believe the exorbitant price of gasoline at the pumps is a direct result of H.R. 5660, the Commodities Futures Modernization Act of 2000 being tagged onto the back of an 11,000 page appropriations bill in the wee hours of the morning when nobody was looking and which was subsequently passed. This bill allows commodities futures speculators to drive up the price of crude oil and thus the price of gasoline without any control over their actions by the Securities and Exchange Commission. THIS MUST BE CORRECTED. DO IT NOW.

One more tidbit to be ignored.................it turns out that some of the biggest investors in the current commodity market "speculation" are pension funds.
