Our family dog Peaches was put to rest today . A quick turn of health in a week . She had given us 11 years of smiles and fun . She sheep hearded the cats inline on her own when they got to frisky . My wife couldn't make a move with out this dog at her heels seemed as if she was leashed but never was . God bless her little heart she is in Doggy Heaven .
Hmmm Bobby, I know how tough that is. We had to put our Doberman down some time ago because she just got so old she couldn't even get up. Hardest decision we ever made, and I couldn't even take her to the Vet, my Ex Wife had to do it. I'm dreading the day Scooter and Sniffy get to that point.
I guess the only thing we can do to console ourselves it to realize that we gave them a terrific life.....lots of good care and love. Don't know if that eases the pain any, but with so many pets not getting the love we gave ours, at least we have that to comfort us.
All of us who treat our pets like family members understand what you are going through. :(

the old man tells him,"sure, there's a pump over there, help yourself." "and my dog?" the man asks. "of course, there's a bowl by the pump" the old man says.
the man walks over and fills the bowl and while the dog is drinking he asks the old man,"excuse me, but where is this?" "This is heaven." the old man replies.
"well then what is that place I passed earlier, it looks nice."
"that's hell". the old man informs him
"well shouldn't you put up a sign or something, warning people?"
"no, we let them sort out the people who would leave their best friends behind".

Sorry for your loss bluestang. I never have not had a dog since I was a child, they are truely mans best friend.
Red great story had to have my daughter read it also . She is becoming a Vet. Tech. and has allways loved even bugs from a young age .
Thanks flh and moon . I was just telling my daughter that there was nothing that could replace the dog in my wifes heart they where insepreatable We would play fight and the dog would snarl and growl like crazy at me but when i reached for it it would lick . It liked that play alot i think too .
Sorry to hear about your dog Bobby.... I had Bo, my Irish Setter, for 16 years... When she died I was never going to have another dog... But now this little black Cocker Spaniel has become my new best friend and constant shadow.... I even catch heck at the parts store if I don't bring him along when I go... He likes to entertain when he makes visits!!!!!
Lots of good dogs looking for a good home.... I'd suggest find another!!!
I gotta say that although I don't know you personally, I do know you.....
I also know the pain you endure. My Wife and I rescue Great Danes and
currently have 10. Most of them are train wrecks but we love them just the
same. As each one leaves in his turn, the pain is unspeakable but speaks of
the character of those who care for them...
I'm including a poem written by Lord Byron, the Poet back in the 1800's.
He had a Newfoundland named "Boatswain" who died of Rabies. He loved the
dog so much that he erected a monument inscribed with a poem that
pretty much says it all.
Near this spot
Are deposited the Remains
Of one
Who possessed Beauty
Without Vanity,
Strength without Insolence,
Courage without Ferocity,
And all the Virtues of Man

Dave thanks its something how a pet becomes part of your life . Another companion for the wife and I will be later down the road .
Dogtag thanks a very commendable feat you are doing . I know a few people who have greyhounds in the same way .
Sorry to hear of your loss.
I know what you are going through. We had to do the right thing with our little Dashund that we had for 13 years. Like your dog, ours went fast she had lost 75% of her kidney function. They become a big part of the family, the Vet said she could live a little longer but she would only suffer. When we decided to have her put to sleep, it was a sunny day in January the ground was not frozen, and I knew what I had to do. I dug a hole where the other pets that had gone before her rest now. Before we took the last ride with her I walked her through the yard one last time. The Vet let us stay with little Libby while they gave her the injection. You think I can take this and it will be for the best but when it was over the tears fell. It’s a sad thing to lose a companion; animals are so forgiving. Like you said Bobby you give them your hand in a friendly gesture and they will always return the kindness.

Bobby, sorry to hear of your loss. It is always devastating even when you know it's coming. We lost our little Lhasa Apso (Dazzle) last July. She went from normal to very ill in just 3 days. After 24 hours in the hospital, the vet told us she would never recover and recommended putting her down.:CRY: We had Dazzle cremated and got her ashes. She nows watches over us from the fireplace mantel.:D My wife said she didn't want to go through that again so we didn't look for a new one. But the sadness didn't go away, so last November we got another little Lhasa. Dazzle was a delight, but the new one (Snickers) is hell on 4 little feet. (She herds the cats too, but she also nips them).
As we age it seems each one gets a little harder to part with especially when they have been a big part of your everyday life. We still miss Dazzle and sometimes catch ourselves calling the new one by that name. She just looks at us like we've lost it.:whacked:
