    Sold My First Car

Well a really nice guy just came and brought Charlie's Car. After the car show that we went too Charlie became bored with his pontiac and wants to do another car. So he asked could he sell it. His dad and I told him that he could so he did. I put alot of enjoyable man hours in that car. Was very happy that the guy that brought it was impressed. I did not realize that it would feel like losing a friend. How did you guys feel the first time that you sold a project? Or am I just being female today?

Not at all Barb. I guess some are more sentimental than others.
I sold my '40 to buy the '36 and had to sell the '36 and I regret both.

I just sold my Jeep pickup that I rebuilt from a junker, and it was strange to see it go to someone else. But I hadn't used it in a year and it just didn't make sense sitting there deteriorating. I know some people turn these cars over like most of us change our socks, but I tend to think of them as family.

I guess what will make you guys feel better is when you find the next one for Charlie.

It was a sad day when I sold my 68 Mustang, and even more so for my toyota MR2. That was a great little car. Reliable, fun and sporty! My life changed with that car! I'm still sad about my 84 CJ7 I sold. It was in cherry condition with a almosted polished looking jet black paint job. But each new car was for a reason at the time. It's just hard to get one of the old ones back.
I guess with that in mind, it is why I've chosen to take the long road to fixing the 48 truck. I figure this one will be a keeper, and so I want everything just right. Every time I pick up a catalog, I get new ideas!
I have to suppress some of them for the shear cost alone! This summer is the time to work on the body and frame, in the fall I'll be ready for the engine, and hopefully by next year have it on the road!

    Other than my 52 Chevy, 55 Chevy convertable, 56 Olds, 66 Belvedere, 68 GTO, 30 A-bone, '72 Fleetside, 81 Trans-Am and 27 T Super-Comp altered, I've never regretted selling a car.

i have sold my share of cars and trucks , but in december i sold my showtruck to some dude outta town so i wouldnt have to see it everyday , anyway it took me two years to build the truck and untold buckets of cash (dont mention this to tuffy i think she lurks around this joint) but anyway i go ahead and sell my prized truck to this dude , he tells me how hes been looking for something different and you know yada yada yada he loves the truck and all ....hmmm! ok .. he then promptly takes the truck and flips it for some cash , but whatever its his truck now , he then buys a 98 camero with some minor repair problems , one being a gas leak and while this new car is sitting in his garage the gas leaks on the floor and eventually catches fire ..
no truck , no camero , no garage!! poor fella im thinkin karma here!!

SPeaking of poor fellas. . .

Less than a year after sold it, the kid who bought my GTO to was hit from behind at a stoplight by a drunk going like a bat outta hell. It put the rear bumper on the dash and killed him instantly. The GTO was just a ball of twisted metal.

Most of the cars I have owned seldom come to mind, but sad to say I have had several very vivid dreams that I still owned the '47 Ford convert I dechromed, covered the interior in gray vinyl and put wide whitewalls on. I think that this has to do with memories being more vivid from earlier in life. I had to sell that '47 when I broke the third transmission and my folks talked me into taking their plain-Jane '49 Plymouth coupe. I have even woke up wondering where my car is and thinking I also had a rebuildable '32 Ford coupe stored in my folks garage but someone had stolen it. I never had that feeling about my gold metal flake dune buggy or my orange MG midget or even my robin egg blue '31 Fordor. The rest of our cars were domestic wagons and assorted sedans that were my wife's choice, including the '66 VW beetle on which I put a Judson supercharger. For some reason that Aztec Red (orange) '47 fat fender Ford has stuck in my memories to the point of showing up in some vivid dreams 40-50 years later! At my present age most of my memories/dreams are mildly blah so that '47 convert really made an impression on me to still come to the surface in dreams.
