Legs don't work anymore

Well since my operation on my right knee, I have been in and out of the hospital 4 times. Infections, blood clots, etc. I now cannot walk on either legs normally. My left leg has bowed out so it's screwing up my back and hips. Now they want to replace both my knees. I never had a mild temper but now I'm taking it out on my wife and workers(yep I'm trying to work, but it ain't easy). I told the Dr. who operated on me that he did something wrong and they had to call security because I pushed him against a wall and was about to let him have it. Dam, I was mad. Now I've got 4 to5 months of being out of work and I can't even begin to think about that. Can't drive my 37, so might as well get rid of it. Well got that off my chest and sorry about all of this but I just can't handle anymore of this crap.

Chevy I am so sorry for your troubles. I wish there was something that I could say or do to make you feel better. only thing i know to say is that it is always darkest before the dawn. hang in there.

I went through 2 knee surgeries on my right knee, it took about 5 years to get back to walking with out thinking about every step.
And yes, I had to do a lot of attitude adjustment with the doctor to get the second surgery and to get him to back way off on the physical "therapy".
Things like "drain the fluid off my knee now or I will do it myself at home" were not uncommon.
It takes time, no way to rush the healing process.

Don't jump off the ship, believe me these surgeries take time and you can't be guaranteed that you will get better. Years of damage will take its toll, do what the Dr. say, and take it one day at a time. I don’t want to talk about myself too much but I’ll tell you I have been busted up pretty good from one end to the other and some parts a second and third time. As an Iron Worker I walked steel with a bad knee, when I would sit down on a truss to bolt up perlins I would have to remember to kick my left leg out to make it pop or if I tried to walk on the top cord of the truss my leg would give out. I had 5 surgeries on that knee it needs to replace but I don’t want to have anymore if I can possibly get by with it. My right knee needs surgery, both of my arms are bad the right elbow needs to be replaced, I lost 40% of the use of it in 1979 I worked with it for another 10 years. My left wrist eggshell cracked they had to put pins in it, I lost 30% of the use of it. Then 1989 two back surgery’s pain everyday some days so bad I want to give up, my wife say’s that’s not up to you. If I can stop for a minute and think of people worst then me, which I have friend that are. I think my friends that died from heart attacks would have traded places with me before their heart attack. I know from my Dr. that people that had the same type surgery ended up paralyzed from the same back surgery I had but their Dr. was as good as mine. Take a deep breath tell your wife you are sorry, I have told that to my wife more times then she deserves but she stays with me. How long do you think you would make it with out her? We lash out at the very people that are trying to help us. Stop this bull shit or drive your truck and kick my ass maybe you will feel better, it shouldn’t be to hard to do since I’ve been busted up so bad, or give me a call and I’ll talk to you, Like I said I’ve been their many times but my wife tells me what I’ve got going. I didn’t think I would ever mess with cars when I fell off the building, my arms had no strength, the Dr. can not believe how I can do anything with them they are so bad but maybe it’s will power. You can't do anything about the blood clots but the Dr. can, they can’t make you keep your temper but you can. Do what the old saying says. Change the things you can and except the things you can’t. I thought I was a goner when I left the roof before I hit the ground but I’ve had a long marriage and three grandkids just think what I would have missed if I would have given up. Get back to what you can do and stop talking like this, and leave your Dr. alone they won’t treat you in jail like your wife does. Sorry for being so hard on but if you get this far you will understand what I’m trying to say. Take Care.

Hey Bart...hang in there man! Don't worry about the temper with the doc. You just over reacted. I'm sure he understands. He'll get over it.

I also know 2 friends who have knee replacements. They feel better than they ever have. Might be worth the try.

Dang, Chevy37, I sure hate to hear of you, or anyone, for that matter, having this on them. I sure do hope you can get this better, sooner. That said, I have a favorite quip, and it seems to make me feel better, regardless of the rest of the mess: "Any day vertical is a good one." Every morning I try to remember to be thankful for whatever level of ambulatory I might be; sometimes it takes several short thoughts - "what a pretty sunrise, or man, the birds are sure at it this morning" - but eventually, I get vertical, and say a silent "thanks". I must tell you that you are definitely not alone, although you are dealing with your own situation; and many of us who have big owies will support you if you wish; sometimes it helps to co-miserate with other guys. Heck, just get the other knee fixed and press on.... Surgery ain't no big deal, had a bunch of them.... Besides, getting old ain'r for sissies!!!!! One of my sprint car misadventures many years ago left me in the hospital for a month, wheel chair for another 5 months, and by the end of a year I was getting around just fine with only 1 cane..... Now the pain isn't even a memory, and I don't think I would even kill the physical therapist who spent 7 months torturing me if I saw her again!!!!!!! What don't kill ya makes ya better.....

sorry to hear about whats going on with you Bart,I too like many others here know and feel your pain,a few months ago my doc. told me i had about 2 weeks to live if I didn't have another surgery on my prostate,I had already made peace with the man up stairs and was ready ever the outcome would be,I too love cars, but no one can replace the love ones around you who love you dearly and would miss you,cars and trucks can be replaced ,you can't,so hang in there, I tell my wife who has being by my side threw all the hell i've been threw, ( I can't see, I can't hear, I can't pee, whats the f#### next?)but I'm here, I sure lots of members here will be praying for you as I will amigo..

Bart, I don't think you over reacted, if he walks like a duck he must be a quack.
Ten years ago my wife had open heart surgery. One of the heart valves was bad and it was replaced with a mechanical one. She wasn't healing quite right so back to the hospital where it was determined that she had a staff infection and she got it from the doctor. It seems that practically everyone he touched developed staff. She spent six weeks in an isolation room and would have probably died had not the head of infectious diseases stepped in. Her case was the straw that broke the camel's back as the head dude ran the operating surgeon out of town. I had let it be known that if he showed up while I was visiting that I had every intention of throwing the SOB out the window and her room was nine floors up.
On a side note, my wife goes in Tuesday morning for breast surgery and I pray to God that she doesn't develop staff again.

I know exactly where you are coming from.Two stints in my right leg, my left leg might need an operation and I can barely talk as my voice box is paralyzed on the right side. Paralyzed on the left side and it would have meant lung cancer. I have a hot rod to finish and I plan on doing just that. Keep a positive attitude and love your wife. PM me if you need some cheering up.I can always tell a tale or two. I might even have a cool hot rod story to tell.

Bart, I am so sorry to hear about this. Hang in there, I know it's easier said than done, but the pain and all the problems will be worth it in the end. Don't worry about being a little short with those people around you, they understand that you are frustrated right now.

We're here whenever you want to vent or talk. And don't even think about selling the '37. Throw a cover over it and when you are better it will be waiting for you. These things do pass, believe me.

Thanks for all you concern and replies and I'm real sorry if I sounded like a person who's looking for sympathy because that's the furthest thing from my mind. Just ranting out anger. My biggest problem is I can't take pain medecine because I had 1/2 of my stomach removed years ago and medecines don't work for me so it's just constant pain. Tomorrow I'm getting my knee drained again and getting a shot of cortisone which has helped before. I had to laugh at work today as I have to walk down stairs sideways and some of the eight grade girls thought it was funny and it really is if you look at it that way. Much better mood today and had a great talk with my wife who's the most understanding women I know and without her around for support, I'd be lost. I figured a good meal was do for her so we went out and had a great time last night. Everything looks better the next day.

Good for you Bart, sometime you just got to get out it or you will just stew. That is funny about the girls young people are so honest. Our second grandson spent two days with us this past weekend. He is like a jitterbug. He had taken a shower and I said you look like a different person you look so good. I took a shower and ask him how I looked? He said you still look like an old man.
