I just got back into cars about five years ago. I sold everything had back 1989 when got married. For some of us you know how that goes. Fortunately for me my wife enjoys cars. Im lucky to have help I have with car Like friend has rearend shop. Another has transmission shop. If I had pay for half the stuff be broke. Price of labor and parts are outrageous. Try set budget but that never works. Plus hours and late nights in garage , but that don't bother me. I got you guys and gals allot credit.
Sounds like you are just stuck with it. It's OK, you're at home here. Just keep on keepin' on ..................

Trading out labor and parts is still a standard around here... Though after getting burned a couple times this year I'm a bit more fussy about who I even want to do business with!!!!
I live in neighborhood me being carpenter we work like Amish. We help each other out fixing up each others home. Works on same princple here. Thats whats nice about this site. Just ask and you will receive. Just like me being carpenter I have got burnt and taking advantage of. Bottom line their allot benfits working as group. :) :)
My nieghbor and I both are into cars, so we try to help each other out all the time...Hes got a 59,and 65 vettes hes building, and I have a 56 dodge truck and a 69 Camaro...So we both are Chevy freaks too, and that always works out...lol

Nothing ever gets any cheaper, and the car hobby was never cheap to start with. If you are raising a family, it is doubly hard. I worked 3 jobs in those times, just so I could have toys, without taking away my family's lifestyle....and I still did 90% of the labor on those toys!
As I worked for people in the bike hobby, it was worse. How can something with two pistons, and two wheels, cost as much as a car???
You want a cheap hobby....take up hiking, or collect butterflies.
Denny , That what I do get list going and start searching. I always end up doing work for family , thats been mistake from day one. They take advantage of situation. You go to say something then crying :CRY: starts you help everyone else. My neighbors are pretty good with helping things , always their when needed.
Today, two things have become more popular, that will save a considerable amount.
If you have a limited budget, don't try to build the most popular body style. See what is available, that will give you a similar body style, without the cost that is driven up by popularity.
Buy a good running car, and pirate everything useable out of it.....engine, trans, rear, battery, radiator, alternator, wiring, pedals, driveshaft, lights (if useable), and so on. Just the cost of trying to put all rebuilt or new parts in a car can be high. Don't rebuild the parts is they are functioning okay.
Things like paint, mag wheels, new tires, and upholstering can wait until later, and are not necessary to get the car up and running.
Good advice HRP, I learned a long time ago that the world is going to just keep spinning whether my car is done this year, next year, or not at all.... I personally don't like to take mine out til they're done, but there's a lot of cars running around with mis matched paint on them, steel wheels, and a set of seat covers... Doesn't much matter, just do what makes you feel good...
Dave, I didn't come up with this idea.....I'm just an observer.
Personally, I am a "detail guy" who won't do it unless it's "done well". I also can work on a project for years without losing interest, or getting sidetracked, but I know some guys don't have that drive, and need to be able to complete the job quickly, so the compromises may be necessary.
Yup, I see lots of the half done cars running around... Doesn't bother me, I just choose to finish mine before they come out of the shop. I usually have a couple projects going at once, if I start losing interest in one, I just work on the other for awhile....
Your right Denny it's money and time. Like said befor got married in 1989 live small trailer then built my house 1995. Got all priorities straight got back into cars 2003 finally built garage 2007. Then worked long hours commerical construction. Know got daughter will be heading of to college. Taking one step at time. I will always have love for cars.
