Summer Plans

I hope it's not too early to start talking about summer, I'm really looking forward to it. Seems the older I get the more I appreciate the warm weather and the Hot Rod and racing action in the summer.

This year we'll be running the Comet and the T-Bird at the drag strip, both will be Super Gas contenders, and maybe a bit of bracket racing for the big $$$$ bracket meets of which there's usually two or three every summer at our tracks.... Due to some health concerns, looks like I'm out of the circle burner game for the year.....

I'll have Tom's coupe done soon, then I'm going to get my '71 Ford pickup finished and up for sale so I can throw some money at the 'maro to get it done and hopefully a bit extra for some more suspension goodies for the Ranchero.... Goal for the summer is to have it sitting on all four with the cage installed... Also going to be putting a couple more Mercs together, hopefully one will be a tube chassis car for a bit of nostalgia racing....

What do you guys have planned for Hot Roddin' and shop action for the summer????????

Headed to the Rocky Mtn Nationals, going over to Rapid City and attend with my brother-in-law, when we return to Rapid, he's allready signed up for the Black Hills Rally, time I finish those two events it will be time to haul ass for home and get busy on my own projects.(and whatever the kids / neighbors have piled up for me.)Been so busy pushin' snow and helpin folks get "unstuck" this winter havent accomplished a whole lot.

Well, the job will be 'over' in August. By then, it will be hotter than Haites here in GA. i will get a 'bag of candy' when the plant lets me go, and will have to decide what I want to do for the forseeable future. I am leaning towards law enforcement. Will be a 40% cut in pay, but whatthehell. With any luck, the money will be ok.

i wanted to to go to the march meet but that's gonna fall through again! my goal this summer is to at least try and get my car nhra ready, as the only other tracks are nhra sanctioned :CRY: . and i plan to put a 4 speed in the car. ill put a weak old saginaw in there for street duty and when it blows ill buy a real transmission, <HINT, HINT> from dave ;)

Summer is here.....kinda!

I'd like to get back on my Plymouth at some point. It'll be nice to have the truck done so I have something to cruise to the car shows. I went all last year driving the minivan to the shows and that was a serious downer. My son wants to paint his Firebird a different color and redo some of the interior so that should take up some time, too.

My plan is to try and pay off what I charged on my cards to heat this place this winter. Then maybe I'll treat my self to a stick of gum or something else nice before I start saving up for next winter. Shawn those are great spring mushrooms . We do the hunt here if its not to dry in may .

im gonna try and get busy with my 37 , bought new fenders both front and backs last month , had to cruise up to indy to pick them up , got a new set of running boards the flat ones , couldnt find any ribbed ones i could afford and found a box of 37 headlight parts to go with the rest of my stuff on my needs to be done list , i already rebuilt the engine on my shovelhead and its ready for ridin this summer , me and the OL might take us a trip have not decided where , but then again we have always just winged it anyway..

Dave, When I joined this Forum some three years ago you were working on a '29 Ford roadster. Were there any pictures of that build or have they been lost due to several computer burps? I am particularly interested in the nitty gritty details of the steering link relative to header clearance, angle, etc. I try to look at pictures and take pictures at meets, but once you cut holes it may be too late to make a change. I have a wooden dowel between the Vega box and the bottom of the steering column but the angle of column is critical regarding the rearmost spark plug and the header. To answer the thread question, my main goal for the summer is to get that steering set up and wire the roadster and work a summer job to pay for a top in the Fall.

That car went to Montana a couple years ago.... Sold the car, Deuce chassis jig, couple sets of frame rails and a ton of small parts to a guy out there... It had IFS on it anyway so can't help you on the Vega box.... Friend of mine just converted his Vega cross steer to one of the new Uni-racks this winter, looks really nice. I haven't built anything with a straight axle for 20 years or so.... Just one of them IFS snobs, ya know?????:LOL: :LOL:

I used to live in Alton Ill. ,they get the huge ones back there!!!!
Here is a couple more ....The wood blewits are in right now and the agaricus.......Some volvariella sp and a nice shaggy mane!!

After the York Nats I have no big summer plans. This summer is our 30th wedding anniversary and got to concentrate on getting past that one without selling a car to finance it. :eek: :LOL: I kind of like going to Lou'ville; she's thinking a cruise...on a boat, not in a rod. Nothing yet finalized yet, still mulling over the possibilities.:confused: :3dSMILE:

Well it made it to 70 degrees F here today and in the creek down the hill the peeper frogs were chirping so I gues it is (early) Spring in Central Va, but don't hang up your overcoat yet, we had snow the day before Easter last year. Anyway the garage should be warmer now! Since most of what I do on the roadster is the first time for me, I spend a lot of time just looking over the situation and measuring so it can be bone chilling below 50 degrees F and I will wait untill I get a few days in the 60s before getting back under the car to fit the D-bar for the steering.
