Adios, not goodbye.
Well folks. its been a thoroughly enjoyable few years, but the time has come for me to log off.
Not from choice, you'd better believe it, but I've just been beaten by technology.
CHR has got just too big for our out-dated networks, and our Socialist Government owned providers have not moved with the times to upgrade our infrastructure.
The Government has passed legislation to ban the physical chastisement of our kids, and they've passed legislation making same-sex marriages legal, but when it comes to actually advancing our technology to the cyber age.......Nah, forget it. We're still on dial up, 32.6 kbs per second. And I've seen it down to 9.3.
I could go satellite, but at $900 startup, and $115 per month, She Who Must Be Obeyed says it isn't justifiable.
Everything is just so slooooow. It took fifty minutes to read just six pages yesterday, and I don't wish to waste my time staring at a blank computer screen.
(That's not to say that the whole of New Zealand is without broadband, just us poor forgotten peasants in the backblocks rural areas.)
I'm gunna miss you-all, I have learnt a lot, just lurking and browsing, there's some very talented and clever people on here who also have a talent in being able to write and describe in easy to understand ways what they're doing. Or have done. These people are very generous with their time too, no question goes unanswered.
You-all know who you are, but you're just too many to name individually.
And when (if) we get broadband......."I'll be back!"
So, from Opunake in New Zealand, God's Own Country, this is johnboy, thanking you one and all.
Adios.
Ps I can still be contacted by e-mail, just please, don't make 'em too big, I can't handle much more than 250/300 KB
Pps Hank, (Tow'd,) send me a picture of that wee Fordson when you've finished it, okay?
-
That just plain suks!!!! I hope we see you back as soon as possible.
-
Sorry to see you go John

Hope you find a fix for the problem John, that's some outrageous fees though!!~!
-
Wow John, that's terrible, and you sure are going to be missed here. We just sort of assume everybody has the same hookups we do, so it is surprising to hear this.
I hope you work out something so you can stick around on some basis. But as soon as things improve you better get your tail right back here. :)
Take care John.

Yeehaa! This Kiwi's back!
Farmside, a rural provider allied to Fonterra, (New Zealand's largest milk processing factory,) have come up trumps with a package that has given me sattelite coverage for NZ$150 plus installation.
So I'm gonna be spending weeks wading through all that's been happening on here!
Man, I couldn't be happier if I was a dog with a thousand lamp-posts!:D :D
Oh frabjous day, Caloo Calay!

John, I wasn't even a member yet when you said adios, but I'd like to be one of the first to welcome you back.

Hey Johnboy, really glad to see you back in the 21st Century!! :D :D There will be a lot of reading you have to do to catch up. Some new members and some old ones have moved off to other pastures.
Look forward to shooting the breeze with you again. :) Welcome back.

I know where you were with dial up; from 97 until just a little earlier this year we had dial up, now high speed. It would take 30 minutes to bring up e-mail with pictures, and I would have to give up on trying to see pages of hot rod material.
Glad you on onboard now, don’t forget to watch youtube a lot of hot rod stuff on there, with dial up it would take forever and I would have to shut the computer down. Good deal.
