Just back from a funeral

It's funny the older I get, it seems I only get together with family for funerals and weddings. Most of us are married by now, so funerals are the big ticket item. My Aunt was burried today. She was a person I had no personal connection with, but to my Uncle who's been by her side this side of 50 years, she was everything. He's a salt of the earth kinda guy. I was really happy to see him and the rest of my Aunts and Uncles today. It was sad seeing him so sad. My cousin Jim was standing up pretty well. It was a five year battle with cancer that got my Aunt in the end.
So here I sit going over priorities in life, personal decissions, career path..etc.
Why is it people die in the winter? I guess I'm just ranting but feel free to join me!:HMMM:

So very sorry to hear of your loss Steve. Most families, including mine, are like that, we only see each other at weddings and funerals. Then after one of those events we all make promises that we will see each other more often, but that never seems to happen.

Your Uncle is going to have a rough time going it without her. 50 years is a very long time and he is going to be lost for a while. Try to spend some time with him and after an appropriate amount of time have him over for dinners and stuff like that. We are all getting older, and we never know when it will be our turn to need our families there. I've seen so many cases where one mate dies and the other mate just gives up and passes shortly after that.

Sorry for your loss Steve... Funerals definitely do become a fact with getting older, been to way too many of them myself the last few years.... Hope your Uncle finds something to keep him going, gonna be rough for him.....50 years is a long time....

Sorry to hear the news Steve.

My Uncle's funeral was This Monday. They live about a day & a half from us and my daughter is having our first grandchild (most likely today) so we couldn't be there. I wish we could have gone. Virgil was a big part of our lives, especially since my dad died when I was 11, Virgil helped my Mom allot.

We've had 2 people here die a week apart of heart attacks. Both in their early 40's. It's a reminder that we need to cherish every day.

we will all die if we live long enuff .. several of my stories have told of the deaths of friends from my younger days .. now in the golden years death is all around even more .. in the last 10 years both my parrents have passed on ... two older brothers and a sister .. many many others i know ..for a while i had one foot in the grave and the other on a bananna peel .. i`ve come to the realization that none of us are promised tomorrow .. as the song says "" live like you were dying "" i`m enjoying life more now than in any period iv`e ever endured .. i just wish my crackhead son and his pillhead wife would straignten up .. they`re killing them selves ..

Steve, sorry to hear of your loss. I am at the age where both of my parents are gone, my wife's parents are in their 70's as well as my sister. It isn't easy but the fact remains that over the next 10 years many of family are going to be passing on.

The one thing that stuck me as sad, was one day before my mother passed at age 92, she told be the bad thing about living long is that the day will come when none of your friends and most of family will be around. Doesn't really make me one to leave sooner than later, but does bring the ageing point home. Winter or Summer, no time is a good time as far as I'm concern. Don't like my small circle of friends and family getting smaller.:(

Steve Sorry about your loss. Unfortunately as we all grow older, funerals are part of our life. I'm 64 my mom is 89 and some of her friends are still alive to which I will be going to there funerals and then sometime down the road, more of my friends.:CRY:

I buried my Aunt this past saturday she died the day after valentines day.It was the hardest thing I had to do. She was the rock of the family and friends.
