This stuff happens all over Texas. People need to learn; if there's a crowd in harm's way don't race and if there's a race don't put yourself where you could die. **)
Obviously the kids racing ain't thinking about these things. I would not be caught dead there though, or killin'.
Pass it along to the young'uns ..............
PS. This is just now making FOX news ...........

This appears to be a world wide problem,we have young guys,[boyracers we call them],who take over industrial areas at night, pour diesel on the roads and skid up their jap junk, usually after 9pm,but quite often, even earlier.Usually, their little spectator friends are throwing bottles and cans around, after they empty them,:( and try to vandalise any thing that they can find..Hell,it aint theirs, why should they worry.Problem is,they also intimidate any poor guy who works in the area, who may be going to work. This happens up and down the country, bigger cities have bigger problems, and all the PC garbage that has been pumped into them at school by the government,[read Greenies],has led them to believe they are allowed to do it.We have a skid pad for these little dopes just 4 miles away from our little village, but most of them wont use it cos they arent allowed to drink or vandalise anything. The cops are short staffed, and are usually hampered by the lookouts, armed with cell phones, who call up their friends and they scatter moments before the cops arrive. Couple of times a year, there is a blitz on these guys, and cars are confiscated, ordered off the road, etc,it slows them down for a while, but not too long.We have had a few deaths, involving this activity, but not many, and not often thankfully.
And yes,I sure did a few foolish things in my youth too, didnt we all?but usually with lower powered cars,,remember guys,we had old 4 cylinder english cars for transport when we kiwis were teenagers, well most of us did. Couldnt get up to much trouble with a sidevalve 4 cylinder, could we?:D Most of them would only do 50mph,an that was down hill.:D
Yep, we all do stupid crap.
Luckily, and God blessedly, I've never hurt anyone let alone killed anyone.
BUT.. to say the incident wasn't the racers fault is ludicrous. If their activity hand't left the street smoked, if the crowd handn't been there, it wouldn't have happened, simple. I am NOT absolving the driver who killed the kids.. he dam sure should have slowed down when he saw the smoke.
There are two documents which the state will issue which carry an immense responsibility for the welfare of the general public. One is a drivers licence, the other is a concealed carry permit. It is probably safe to say that we all take the responsibility too lightly when getting behind the wheel. After all, it's not as direct as pointing a gun at someone. BUT.. when things go wrong it is the DRIVERS responsibility to safeguard pedestrians, bicyclists, motorists, etc.
We are just in too dam big a hurry in our lives. People seem to have a reluctance to use the brake pedal.
sad.
Well said Firebird. People are in too much a hurry, or are so distracted in their cars that other people around them are effected. Cell phones and driving simply don't work. Give a teen a fast car, a cell phone with a camera, and the fact that they are teenagers with raging hormones and it's a miracle we don't have stories like these evey day.
Add to the teens, mad angry adults, alcoholics and senior citizens(not all, just ones who can't see or react too well) all out on the same roads......probability of accidents is astronomical.
yep no one can slow down and if some thing happens blame everyone but your self. i had a girl ass end me .i was turning i look up in the rear mirror to see her putting makeup on just before she hit me i floored the truck trying like hell to get out of here way she hit me at a roll .still evey day i get pass on the hi way back from work on snowy icy days and see all the cars off the road ?i just do not get it?
Pat this last year, I was at a standstill due to an accident ahead of me, on hiway 101. A women on a cell was doing 35-50mph by my estimate, when she looked up and plowed into the car stopped behind me. The impact threw the car behind me into my rear end pushing me fowards. I guess she didn't stop right away because she nailed the car behind me again and in turn I got hit a second time.
About 5 months later, my wife was rear ended on the same hiwy in heavy traffic because somebody behind her wasn't paying attention. A driver's license is a serious thing!
