I just had to get back in to answer Severson's question about rollbar tubing.
Had a good time teching Top Fuel and Funny Car at the Phoenix show last month. Will have another opportunity to do it again for 3 days of testing following the Nationals here. I think the teams were a little taken aback to have someone actually tech the car and driver in detail.
Talked with Kim Richards of the Budweiser team and asked about her dad, Dick LaHaie. She said he's doing fine, retired and living in Florida.
Welcome back Richard. I don't get by here as often as use to, but it's good to see your posts.
Well, it sure is good having you back Richard... Thanks for the clarification on the tubing, trying to find a few others around here who need some moly to get a decent sized order together and help with the freight charges!
A couple more points for you. Manufacturing tolerances in moly of -10% are allowed, so the wall could be 0.075" and still be legal. This "fudge factor" is applicable only to moly. Mild steel must be minimum 0.118" with no allowance for undersize. Just so you know. When you do get the tubing, de-burr all ends and check the wall before you start bending.
If you decide to expand the bar into a cage later, you can continue with the 1 3/4" material or drop down to 1 5/8" for the rest of the cage.
Thanks Richard. My new moly source has promised (for whatever that's worth) to mic the tubing before he ships it.... been stuck with some of that thin wall stuff before!!! Turned out to not be a big problem, just used it in areas of the structure that a smaller size and wall was allowable....
Oh yeah, who was that brake company you always referred to? On the 'maro, looks like I'm going to have to do away with the power booster and get a new master cylinder....it's heavy, and looks like it is going to interfere with the valve cover on that side... Rather then guess, I'd like to talk with one of the experts and have them pick out the right master cylinder the first time.. Also, wondering if it would help to change the pedal ratio?????
I've always used Master Power Brakes.....
Master Power Brakes
Thanks... Lost the link and forgot their name!!!!!Quote:
