Well after Matt telling us he bought this or that from Harbor Freight and the quality was decent, I decided to give them a try. Heck, their prices are low!!! Well, I ordered some clamps, a protractor, bunch of brushes and some other little stuff they had on special... Though they are far from being the highest quality stuff on the market, for the money the quality is ok.
So Thanks Matt, I probably never would have tried them without your suggestions!!!!

What's even more funny is how some members think every thread started is directed at them in some sort of personal manner....
There are some things that are junk,but I scored a tool I think is A++ they have a Brake bleeder that works off your air compressor($29.95) it looks like a spray gun.I replaced the lines,all 4 wheel cyls and converted to a dual master which I did not bench bleed on my '54,in about 10 minutes it was all bled:) no helper required!

I haven't bought a lot of Harbor Freight tools, but some that I have are decent. You can usually spot the poor quality stuff. Just like a lot of the stuff they sell at the big car events. Just got to know what you're looking for and understand that the quality may not be as high as you would like. I have a Harbor Freight store about 12 miles up the road, so I get to go up once in a while and look around and actually touch things. That is as long as my wife is not with me, cause she thinks I spend way to much time looking.:LOL: :LOL:

IMO and now this is just my opinion so no one get their feathers ruffled. For non mechanical stuff their fine but for electrical and mechanical stuff I usually pass on Harbor Freight. I usually by from here with the mentality that this is "through away" stuff. Example I had to spray some POR 15 ,nasty stuff, so I bought a 15 dollar sprayer instead of using my 80 sprayer that would of took me a while to clean up.
I wouldn't buy another welder, or another drill from there, bad experiences with both of those. also the C clamps work good, but don't crank them really tight, they will break. tried to compress a tight/ seized caliper with my 6", t snapped. My chop saw works great, but I have only ran 1 of there brand wheels in it, wear out way to fast, I have a DeWalt in it now
I've purchased a few things from them as well. The prices are definately dirt cheap and you can (like others have said) almost purchase the stuff for a one or two time use and get a fairly decent value for it.
Since I don't make a living with my tools, it really doesn't make a lot of sense to me to go out and dump a ton of cash on them. I can get the stuff I need at a much cheaper price, and while it very well may not last me forever, it just as well might, due to the low frequency of use.
There are a number of items I've got from them that go along those lines. For example, I think I gave $15.00 for a vaccuum guage on sale that I used to tune the new carb on my '55. It worked perfectly. I may end up using it realistically 3-4 more times in my life. Compared to the $200.00 Snap-On guage, I'll be fine "slumming it" with the cheaper tool.
I also bought an electric hand planer for 1 wood working project. I think I gave $49.99 for it and it worked great. I may never actually end up using it again. The cheapest one I could find besides the Harbor Freight version was $109.00 at Home Depot.
Again, if I had to make a living with my tools, I would probably be pretty selective as to what I bought from them and why. Since I don't though, I'm a little more liberal with my standards and a little more con$ervative with my ca$h.
I will say that I don't buy their light bulbs anymore, I haven't had much luck with them at all.
All things considered, seeing this thread got me to thinking that it's about time to make a run up there and check out what the latest cheap deals are.

Pass on the precision tools.
My Dad bought a band saw that never did work, or at least I couldn't figure out how set it up. Band kept jumping off the rollers.
