i live on an acre of land that was a homestead going back nearly 200 years .. from time to time things come up out of the ground that surprise me .. when i use to have a garden plot i always found pieces of farm implements and horse collar things and stepped on square nails all the time .. i even found a 1914 penny in good shape in my garden .. but anywho several years ago a funny looking wrench popped up out of the ground and i just hung it on a tree limb near some chain links and other stuff the earth had spit out .. yesterday i was looking at the wrench again and noticed it was adjustable .. it is a stoneage adjustable wrench ,, i looked it up and found out the adjustable wrench was invented in the mid 1800s ..and improved upon in the late 1800s .. as i work at a lowes and we now have craftsman tools i wonder if i clean this thing up and find it to be a craftsman tool could i exchange it for a new one ?

If that's an old Craftsman wrench, better hang onto it... the quality is far better than what they put out now!

Sorry to hijack the thread, but speaking of Crafstman tools,

Years ago (probably in the mid 1970's), I chanced upon a rusted old set of Craftsman sockets on the side of the road that had apparently fallen out of someone's vehicle . They were spread over 20 or 30 feet but I picked up a dozen sockets, a ratchet and two extensions. They were real tired and the ratchet had been used as a hammer. On a whim, I took them to the local Sears store and explained that I had found the tools on the roadside. Without batting an eye, the clerk went to the shelf and gave me a new set (with more pieces) and when I asked what I owed him he replied, "Not a red cent. Our guarantee is lifetime and unconditional and follows the tool, not the owner."

Those were the days... I still have these tools and use them on a regular basis. The finish is a bit worn, but I keep them clean and lubricated and fully expect my son to use them long after I'm gone.

as i said we sell them at lowes now but our policy is we can only replace something that is the exact part number ,, some ratchets and sockets that come in marked down sets or so have unique part numbers that only craftsman themselves can replace or deal with ..and i think most military issue stuff has unique numbers that we do not recognize .. the only craftsman product we have problems with is weed eaters .. dont buy a craftsman weed eater ..

Glenn, that is when Crapsman was a quality tool.

I'm 57, my mom bought each of us the craftsman 99 piece tool sets that came with heavy duty metal storage tool box, when we were 15 or 16 years old getting our first cars. Still the same set I use every day, aside from a 3/8" ratchet have never had to replace any of them, unless I lost a tool! The ratchets got worse in quality over time as the newer cheaper stuff came out. Taken care of these will last longer than me! My oldest brother started buying Snap-on but middle brother and I did well with our first tool kits!

"craftsman 99 piece tool set" What I started with, 50's still have most, added some of course. Remember the little magnet set that went up inside of the sockets?

Ah by the 70's I don't recall the magnets! It's funny that you can get craftsman from Ace Hardware now!
