302 sbc, Cimmaron?
My older brother had a Camero SS when I got back from the service in '70. It had a 4-speed and a really hot motor. He said that he had to order the motor separate from the car, because Chevrolet wasn't allowed to put that particular motor in the car at the factory, BUT that the dealership could pull the factory-installed motor and drop this motor in if he ordered it. He did. He said that it was a special 302 CI called a "Cimarron". There was no question that it was "hot" for its time.
Can anybody verify this? I've talked to a lot of Chevy guys and only have had one even seem to know what I was talking about.I thought I was broke 'til I bought a streetrod

The only 302s that Chevy had that I know of are the DZ engines . This was a 4" bore 3" stroke (1967 S/J and 68/69 L/J )11.0.1 C/R Forged pistons and crank short block . 2.02 in/1.60ex valves double-hump heads .And this engine had a special 455 / 481 Lift solid-lifter #140 cam . They also had a 780 CFM Holley with a factory aluminum high-rise .This engine was rated at 290 HP . But I do think it was makeing more then that . There was a cross-ram intake . And it was a service part installed option #3940077 . This cross-ram intake ran two Holley 600CFM carbs . These engines and early Z-28s were made for Trans am road racing . But they also did run strong on the street and strip . I personally did see what they really could do . They were fast right out the box .

Check out this Drag car ! 1968 Z-28 DZ 302 . They called it the "Sea-Terror" . It was ordered new just for racing . And has remained a race car it's entire Life . Last known to have only 255 miles on it . It was a NHRA and IHRA E Stock national record holder . COOL

Heres a photo of the headers that were a production option . They came with the RPO Z283 package . And they were shipped in the truck with instructions of the new Z-28 . The headers had 1.75" primary tubes with 3.5" collectors .

In early '68 I was nosing around the Cone Bros. Chevrolet dealership in Anaheim, Ca. and came across a '67 Z. From a distance it looked like a plain jane Camaro, no stripes or badging on the fenders. There was a small Z28 emblem just left of the drivers side headlight. I know there was badging on the back, but I didn't look. If memory serves me right the price was somewhere close to 3 grand. I wish I'd pursued the car further, but at the time I was really jazzed on a '68 Charger.Ken Thomas

Could be the same ones, I can't find the ads, I would have to pull out some disc's to look for it, and they could be packed in the garage, then I'll never find them.

Welcome to CHR. I think that you need to hook up your vacuum advance. At part throttle when cruising you have less air and fuel in each cylinder, and the air-fuel mixture is not as densely packed...
