My son is looking a 1975 PONTIAC ASTRE. Does anybody know anything about this car and will it hold a v-8 like its sister the vega?
this is what it has but i do not understand all of what it is telling me. Is it worth this price?

Better than a Vega....sounds interesting....it can be fun and affordable.
P.S. off set mounts are available, think Monza.

It can be done and these cars with V8s rage . The biggest problem is the cars rear end is weak . I do think that the 1975 Vega / Astre can use the Chevy monza 7 1/2 rear end that is slight step up but still not to strong . A friend had a 1972 Vega with a Don hardy V8 kit . He ran a high mile 1965 327 with a 350HP set up and a TH400 . Also a 12bolt from a 1966 Chevy II with a 355 Posi . That car ran 13.26 with street tires . And we drove the car 60 miles to the track to . This is also a car I would like to build . :cool:
I also had a 1975 Chevy Monza with the factory V8 . It also is based on the Vega body with some up dates . This one was a non hatch back . And had the 262 Chevys smallest V8 with a saginaw 4 speed 288 first . And it had a 7 1/2" 293 open rear end . It was stock like this . Latter I installed a bigger cam and 4bbl high rise . Still with no headers and the open rear end this car ran low 15teens . But it had MPH like a high 13teens car . It would not hook well without Posi . And GM left the 4 cyl brake set up on them . One time I could not stop at the end of the 1/4 mile and ended up in part of the corn field !
As I remember, changing the #7 spark plug was a lot of fun.
You know you are right the power brake boster and str :CRY: shaft were in the way . But at least mine had no air . Love to have that car now :)Quote:
