A little taste of SEMA 2007

I'm a little deep in the Dodge project right now, so don't have enough time or energy to devote to resizing and cataloging all the pictures we took at SEMA this past week. So I thought I'd put up a few of a couple of cars that were on display, built by our buddy kennyd. The first is the infamous '69 Camaro made famous by the theives that took his truck, trailer, and a bunch of parts for this car just over 3 weeks ago. Not fazed by a little adversity, Kenny and crew plugged on, got some more parts, and got the car done in time for the show. The second car had a somewhat less dramatic run up to the show, but is also a beauty. Enjoy!

I'll try to get some more up later in the coming week as time allows.

And again Kenny, I owe you big time. Thanks for the help with the body.

And one more angle on the Camaro. With the crowd that was always around it it was a miracle to get a clear shot!:)

Okay, here're some more.

These are from a couple days before the SEMA show opened. The local SoCal Speedshop franchise hosted an open house and these were some of the local beauties in the lot. For those of you who are Shine fans a pic of his engine. Then, a '27 style lakester with a supercharged engine. And then a '29 on '32 rails with a little blower action through the hood. Oh, and something that kenny dropped out of his trailer..................:confused:

Now, back to the SEMA show itself. There are always some interesting innovations and some fabulous craftsmanship on display.

The first is a '35 Ford 3 window that was a recent Street Rodder feature. The second is a little lakester that resembles a '27 Ford, but we found in the Mopar Speed Shop. Both had some interesting interior details.

And for those of you who have enjoyed the Blastolene Specials before, here is the latest one to sneak out of the studio. Take a close look at the body work on those well rounded fenders!

This is all I have time for tonight, but more will be posted later.

What does this Blatolene have for power? Another Allison or ? As for the Kenny D. drop off, looks like a nice one!

Hey Dave, The Blastolene car has a 702 inch, 60* V-12, that was produced in the '60's by GMC. They went into over the road haulers, constant use deep well irrigation pumps, & heavy trucks, I've even pictures of one in a mobile Patriot missle launch platform. The motor weighs 1485 lbs., produced 250hp. @ 2400 rpm/585 ft./lbs. @ 1600-1900 rpm. The name of the car is The B-702. The first two are of the frame/engine during the build and the last is showing ( not to well) that the grill is actually made from glass. Hope you like :) :)

the police chased the truck and shot the thief in the face BUT did not kill him .
i got back today from sema and have to go sign for the truck today and get it out of impound . no parts .

Friend of mine has a sign in his shop, "All shoplifters will cheerfully be beaten to a pulp and deposited out back in the pen with the watchdog". Sez he's never had a lot of problem with theft!!!!!:LOL: :LOL: :LOL:

Here's a mixture of stuff for the Ford nuts among us. Some Roush crate engines (the Cross Boss will only set you back about $24k), the repop '67 2+2 Mustang body (displayed in the Ford Motor booth no less), and a wild, turbo'd '65 Stang.

And then, back to hot roddy stuff. A couple Deuce roadsters, the copper colored one from Hollywood Hot Rods, the tri colored one had some nice details with a sporty car touch.

Then for you Rad Rides by Troy fans, a '40 convertible from Trepanier. Lots of nice detail work as expected, but the gauges were especially........ummmmm.......interesting!

Last one for tonight is the display car for a company called Speed 33. This is another steel repop of what looks mostly like a '33/4 Ford roadster, but, much like the Dearborn Deuce, it has a very nice folding top that disappears into a compartment under the tulip panel, and roll up windows. Not really a surprise as the company is owned by a former employee of ASC who helped develope the Dearborn Deuce, and this car. This one, of course, benefited from the lessons learned on the Deuce and has some valuable refinements. Number one to me was I could actually see through the windshield rather than have my site line interupted by the top cross bar of the windshield frame. Second, the metal finish, both for gaps and smoothness of surface is VERY nice. But then, for a starting price of $27.5k for the body with top and windshield, you should expect that. The ergonomics of the car are nice, nice, nice! Though not as popular as a Deuce, this one should attract a lot of attention, and rightly so.

Yep, there're always some interesting debuts at SEMA. Not always to my taste, but inspirational just the same. Evolution in the hobby is a constant.

Kenny (flh) there's the Project X video too, and some o' them Fords had Chebbie power.

For the Overhaulin' fans, I didn't get any pictures because they banned cameras in the tent, but a little disclosure. The project they were working on was a '52-54 (didn't see any trim to pin the exact year) Ford convertible. I only saw it in primer, but based on the painted engine and the upholstery fabric I saw it will be a green car.

A lot more green paint in recent times. What happened to the old ban on green, since it hurts resale? Are builders being "anti-establishment", or just trying to be different? .....or a little of each?

You're right about the green thing. If you've noticed, Trepanier has been on a green jag for a while. Kennyd was joking that he got a drum deal on green so keeps painting rigs that color til it's gone.:D I've noticed too that green and green toned colors from '30s/40s Fords have been showing up more lately on rods. You're probably familiar with the paint company addage that the colors that are hot in the women's fashion of today will be the colors of OEM rigs a couple years down the road. So there may be a clue in that.

Speaking of kennyd, that "brown" on the '57 Chev is a departure from "normal", yet pretty striking. Vive le difference!!

I was in Vegas but I couldn't attend the SEMA show. I was at the crap tables trying to win enough to buy Kenny a new pair of shoes! LOL!:LOL:
